i got this ipod integration kit thing installed after i got the dealer to pay for it since they said my aux button would enable my ipod to work with the steering controls they were wrong

they got the usa spec one check it out here http://www.usaspec.com/ipod.html

    its the PA12-TOY model

its in my glovebox and it charged my ipod and i could switch the songs via my steering wheel buttons

it has different modes and i can still get my sirius added on i am getting the starmate put in friday and it will look stock wohooooo!

this usa spec one is set to hybrid mode for me where i have 5 playlists but they show on screen as a cd changer so disc 1-5 are playlists and the disc 6 is my complete library. if i add the sirius on it them 1-4 are playlists and disc 5 is the library and disc 6 is my sirius according to my husband who read the manual i got with it sincei dont speak mechanic language. he translated it for me

i will take pics of what beach auto sound does for the starmate for me. dh was thinking of putting it in the overhead where the sunglasses go or the compartment under the radio hence why i cant get the sportster because i want it to look clean and as close to stock as possible since i am funny about that stuff.

i love my prius its so rad!

I'd love to see some photos of the on-screen displays and such if you can. I had not heard of this unit. Please keep us abreast if there are any problems as well.

That PA-20TOY sounds like the one I'd want. Do you know the cost on that thing?

Nevermind, $170 at Crutchfield with free shipping. (PA-12)

    And the PA-20TOY is $190
(Note that the PA-20 is listed as out of stock but actually isn't available yet...should be available this fall. It appears you can pre-order it and/or ask to be e-mailed when it's in stock).

That really sounds great (especially getting the dealer to pay for it) and I will second the call for pictures. I never really considered the DICE unit because it sounded too troublesome, but this newer adapter might actually compell me to cough up some cash. Pictures! Please!

Will the USA Spec unit allow connection of a factory Sirius radio as well? The DICE and VAIS unit have a connection for a serial connection with the factory satellite radio that allows integration of both the ipod and the sat radio.

    thanks,
    Roger

i wonder if the prius can handle cd changer + ipod intergration + sirius all at the same time

i guess if you already have the cd changer then you cant have
the ipod kit without disconnecting the cd changer

Yes it can. Just as long as you mean the internal CD changer.

If you have an external CD changer all 3 wouldn't work in your 2007. A 2004 or 2005 would since it supports a MD changer, which is something a DICE kit can emulate.

I just got a USA SPEC PA 20 TOY installed today for Ipod integration. Much to my chagrin, I lose the on-screen data when the car goes above 5mph! Can't see playlists, can't see songs, can't see artists, etc. All comes back when the car stops. Obviously, this is due to Prius auto blanking of the Nav system but it effectively renders the USA SPEC device useless while driving. Anybody hear of a work around. BTW....08' Prius with NAV and MP3.

Is this the same thing as Toyota are selling in the UK? As hey said my 57 plate T3 Prius does not play MP3 and all they offer is the ipod kit.

I was told by my local Toyota garage that the iPod kit they offer isn't all that. I enquired about both iPod integration and bluetooth for my T4. They said they could fit it but that it would cost a lot to supply and install. I ended up going for an SLi2 adaptor from these chaps. The delivery was pretty quick and they're very friendly.

I'll be posting some installation photographs at some point.

Great link, but they said because I'm in London that they cannot install. So I'm left with the dealer, I would rather go with them then buy the unit and get another guy to fit it and if it does not work correctly with the screen or wheel controls then I'm buggered.

Rang around a few dealerships and they said that with fitting I'm looking at £250 - but none of them sounded certain if I could control my ipod via the screen and/or steering wheel controls.

Hi again. You didn't tell me your name by the way :)

    My advice would be this:

Contact RCS 900 Toyota in Slough. It's only a short drive out of London on the M4 and they're really knowledgeable and helpful. Their fantastic Prius specialist, Herman Mok, has just left them for another dealer, but this particular garage know their stuff. And of course, they're an official Toyota garage.

The customer service seems excellent in my epxerience and they know of the SLi2 iPod connector and the Toyota OEM ones. They've seen the install I did of my accesory and are really on the ball. (They've even expressed interest in my PHEV conversion).

Give them a ring. Ask to speak to the Prius specialist, or someone in the parts department. Mention that I've recommended you (I'm the owner of "velma" the red T4 from Bristol they've been working on a lot recently!

Thanks Nikki! I like the SLI one - and they have one that plays video also for £250 - but I'm still within my warranty period and having someone other then toyota install something will invalidate the warranty (I think).

Is the SLI unit and toyota one both able to control the music via the screen and steering wheel control.

    Hi again,

You can browse playlists with both screen and steeringwheel controls. It's of course not as comprehensive as say, using the iPod directly, but it works for me.

Mine minics the MD player and interfaces just fine. I can select playlists without a problem and it will even display the track text in the Audio window if you want it to (Track title and album that is).

    Have a chat with RCS900. They're a decent bunch.

Its spooky, I read your message and later that day forgot about the name of the dealership, but later that day I rang around dealerships and got a quote down to £230 for the kit with fitting and it was RCS 900. Definitely correct in saying they know what they're talking about and bargaining with them was easy.

    "Price is - £280" - RCS
"Can we get that closer to £200" - Me
"Best I can do is £230" - RCS
    "Done." - Me

    Brilliant!

RCS900 are one of the few toyota garages I've encountered who are really Prius friendly.

I actually drive the 80 miles there from Bristol to get both our Prius serviced there.

As promised, a video of the SLI in action :)

Sorry it's poor quality. My video camera is playing up so I had to use my digital camera.

this video is awesome. thanks for doing that. but i have a couple questions:
    1) can you still shuffle your entire library?
    2) can you choose a specific artist or song or album? i'm confused about the playlist numbering thing that SLI requires.

i noticed you have a cassette tape to ipod converter. isn't the sound much better on the SLI? why have the cassette converter as well?

    thanks!
    david
Ps: loved that you had xmas carols and L-word on your ipod.
