Everytime I fill up it seems like it shuts off at ~9.8 gallons, then I can continue to fill without spill to 10.X. If I do spend the extra 5 mins the guege won't even read as a full tank, it will have a bar down already. LAME! My max is only ever 10.5 gallons. I would have surely thought I could get 11+ since its a 11.9 gallon tank. I run about 25 miles on the 'blink'. Is there a problem with my bladder?
I run about 25 miles on the 'blink'. Is there a problem with my bladder?[/quote] Most definately!:hurt:
We went down to one bar and no blink and I put in 11.01. it goes all the way to full. The wife doesn't get the gauge thing, makes me nervous!
based on some online reading Toyota Prius fill-up keeps tripping the gas pump? - Yahoo! Answers It seems that the problem could be the gas station I go to. I have filled up almost every time at the same station (convenient, on my way home and always the best price). So maybe I should use a different gas station to test? Or is it most likely a bladder problem?
I have never filled up more than 9.5 gallons. The one time I did do 9.5 gallons, all this gas came out of that tank. Usually it's around 8.5. Does that mean there's still 3.4 gallons left in my gas bladder?
I have noticed that when the pump is set on the first click it pumps at a different rate at almost every station. We get realistic MPG when I do 2 fills in a row. The wife gets inflated milage when she fills after I do because she takes what she gets on the auto click. I squeeze the handle at a slow rate but it gives you an accruate MPG reading. I am wondering if this isn't why there is a problem when people talk about it being the bladder. People are in a hurry and take the first click (notch). find a station that consistently fills at a slower rate while on the first click and you might not have to squeeze the last gallon or so in. I have noticed it varies from station to station, pump to pump even at the same station.
But it's so much fun to fill it fast and get out of there while the SUV drivers are still standing there, having watched you drive up, fill-up and now leave, with resentful expressions on their face...
I hear you there! We filled up at a station today with the exact color etc. Prius today, 2 of the same at the same station, my kids where freaking!
I fill it by setting at the slowest possible rate. I'll then fill it manually until it clicks off. I don't let it go to the "blink" stage, so I likely will never put in that much gasoline. The largest tank? 9.94 gallons (on better than 600 miles).
The capacity of your tank is 11.9 gallons gross. The useful capacity is closer to 10 gallons. Prius sold in North America have a rubber fuel bladder inside of the fuel tank. This bladder reduces evaporative emissions, but also reduces the useful capacity of the tank. The capacity will vary with temperature and fuel station pumps, but the size of your fills is already larger than most get. I recently ran my Prius down to where it was telling me to add fuel on the MFD. This was my largest fill ever at 8.6 gallons. Regardless of the amount of fuel, if you fill your tank to capacity, you should get full bars on the fuel gauge (it takes a few moments to register). If you don't, you may have a fuel tank calibration problem. Tom
My top three inputs of gas since Ive owned my car are: 11.230 - 6/22/08 11.182 - 2/21/08 11.008 - 3/09/08 (edited, did show 09!) I usually fill up when the low fuel light first chimes. I've always added at least 10 gallons though.
Hey, steve, How do you know you'll be putting 11.008 gallons in your tank NEXT March? Do you have a time machine or something? And while you're in that future warp, tell us how much the gas will cost NEXT March . Ken (in Bolton,Ct)
On two separate occasions I put about 12.75 gallons in the Prius tank. (With NO "hiccup" and gas spurt). The first time it happened I actually complained to the station attendant cause I thought they were ripping me off. I mean the car took OVER a gallon above its full rating and I wasn't even out of gas! Damn bladder.
I get between 9.3 nd 9.6 pretty consistantly if I fill up when it starts flashing. Never had more than 9.6 gallons.
10.5 gallons is the most I've gotten and as to the maximum I expect out of the tank... 10 gallons no matter what the vehicle specs say (I learn a lot here....)
