Ooooh, thanks for this thread. You just reminded me that the Prius has a "hidden drawer" and I think that's where I left my cell phone about 6 months ago. Gotta go check!

and the 3' long iPod audio input to the car audio system.

The little drawer is a trash container.

Easily worth more than the $200 I paid for it years ago.

I took apart the console a few days ago to install the sub-woofer control knob. I also noticed I had a lot of unrelated items. In addition to some change, I found the cover for the fuses, a fuse (still good), some granola bars, a wii sensor bar stand, and a bolt.

Here is a list of everything I carry and where:

center console: 30 CD wallet with my backup collection of all my Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush, Black Sabbath and Ozzy CDs, plus various other favorite CDs I don't want to be without, and several other CDs in rotation (I have a long commute).

rear front cupholder: work keys & gate clicker.
    forward front cupholder: cell phone
rear fold-down cupholder or bottle holder in door: pop-top Thermos bottle with sippy straw filled with ice water (Makes one-handed operation easy for rehydrating on long hot commutes when I refuse to lower my mpg by running the A/C.)

hidden drawer: microfiber cloth, small kleenex pack, a few emergency sticks of gum, spare underbody molding clips/screws, and a 20 Watt inverter/110 volt cell phone charger. (I refuse to buy a new 12 volt phone charger every time I get a new phone)

center dash compartment: pen, pencil, change holder, small notepad.

maps, flashlight, tire gauge, Toyota manuals, work camera & safety glasses in lower glovebox. small first-aid kit, insurance papers etc. in upper glovebox. Yes, even though I have DVD-Nav, I use maps too.

The side pocket in the hatch area is generally empty.

A 12-volt air compressor/emergency light, a tool kit, an emergency rain poncho and my work boots are in the big compartment above the spare. Several rags and a pair of cotton gloves are sitting on the spare tire, just in case.

The back seat/hatch area holds an extra jacket, cap, nice rain coat, and emergency blanket. In winter I add a rubbermaid container with Carharts and winter hat/gloves. (Remember, I have a long commute, and I want to be prepared if I ever break down in the middle of nowhere, and in Chicago, you know what happens to the weather every 10 minutes.)

    Prius Maximus,

Nice list. Maybe add a battery jump starter? (I tuck mine under the front passenger seat).

Thanks, and you're right, a jump starter is a necessity. I carry one in winter, along with a folding shovel - in the hatch or the big tray above the spare. I'm in summer mode now and forgot about it.

About a dollar in change, a small flashlight, a tire pressure guage, a notepad with pencil, a hand towel, a case for my sunglasses and a little birdseed in case I get the munchies...

I've got that exact kit too, except my Browning is .40 and I keep it in the back seat foot space (quick access while driving).
It's locked and loaded. I have my carry conceal license. :)

    Added yesterday:

A potted plant in the cupholder to accompany the coleus cutting (see photo below).

Now I have to put my Diet Pepsi between my thighs and squeeze.

    I keep a:

microfiber cloth (for frequent wiping of my MFD and shiney surfaces...

another smaller lens cloth for my glasses

a Tide detergent pen-I am a messy eater

    Pocket knife

a ziploc bag full of quarters

    My Ipod

and that's about it. I'm trying REAL HARD not to trash this car up like I have been prone to do in the past.

I have to ask, how in the hell are you planning to keep those plants alive in there? Around here, a plant can wilt to death in the time it takes me to run in the grocery store!

We'll see. I monitor their health. The coleus cutting was wilting the other day so I brought it home for overnight AC. Otherwise, on hot days I try to park in the shade, leave the windows open, use the window sunshield.

Yeah I'm experimenting. Cactus will be the last resort. I figured if VW puts a bud vase in the New Beetle, then cuttings and some potted plants short of Cactus must be able to survive in there.
