Outside of the USA and Japan, fuel economy is rated in litres per 100 km, or l/100km. A handful of countries, especially the UK, mention miles per gallon. That is *always* miles per IMPERIAL gallon

    US gallon: 3.78 litres
    Imperial gallon: 4.54 litres

In the UK, the Fiesta diesel and the Prius are within 1 mile per Imperial gallon of each other. Quite frankly, it's getting a bit old for me to keep reminding trolls, s*** disturbers, and dumbasses that the "wonderful" fuel economy of EU market vehicles is really no better than American market vehicles, once proper volume conversion is done

I truly hope diesels never make more than a slight dent in overall sales here. Even with the finicky urea injection, comparable diesel motors pump out many times the smog forming compounds compared to gasoline motors

If you're waiting for a fuel cell vehicle you're going to be waiting forever. They will likely never be a realistic option. Check out Technology Review: Blogs: Guest Blog: The Last Car You Would Ever Buy--Literally

You can lease the Honda FCX Clarity in Southern California right now. I'm sure they're all taken by now though.

That's a different question than whether you can get one now or not.

if the germans get a hold then the prius might have trouble selling but I'm sure they'll continue to compete

the OP has a point, some of those Euro diesels are pretty slick, been in one with 230 ho that gets over 40mpg..a VW rabbit my buddy had imported over from germany 2 years ago.

But toyota will have the no.1 most MPG car for a long while with the Gen 3's, while these other's will be right behind..and alot of people may buy them..so what..as long as they arent harmful to air quality, get some decent MPG..everyone is happy.

don't forget that you only get that 40mpg when driving economical
a car with a lot of power .. is power you want to use! and then its nothing near 40mpg anymore....;)

To me, here is proof of trollhood-

I get <20mpg from my E46 and I'm proud of it.

Having this statement as your signature at Priuschat indicates that you definitely do not have the same attitude of us Priuschatters. We take pride in our high gas mileage and kindness to the environment, whereas you are bragging about your lack of efficiency.

Furthermore, why should we even CARE if other fuel-efficient vehicles are available? Offhand, there may be 2 reasons I can think of that might be detrimental to us:

1 - by having more efficient cars in the US, overall fuel consumption would drop, and less demand would mean that OPEC may provide less, making fuel stay at high prices, but this would have more of an effect on non-Prius drivers, and let's face it, would probably happen anyway

2 - our resale value may perhaps drop a little because of competition. This matters little to many of us, as we have no intentions of selling our Prius anytime soon. Also, competition could mean that our next efficient vehicle would cost less, and waitlists may not exist. So, it could be a bonus for us , too.

So, yeah, I think you are really here to try to cause some sort of friction here, discussing pretty much a non-issue for us, and trying to make it into an issue. No thanks.

"Troll" Is not used a lot here on PC ... just 'accordingly' ... probably less than a fraction of 1%. Notice how you never addressed 'where you came from' ?? We expected non-trolls to admit, "yes, I'm a diesel lover ... but tell me why the Prius is better".

But YOU'RE RIGHT !! EVERY one knows that ANY diesel can "smoke" a Prius Driver ... even the cleanest brand new diesels :

See? You were Right :p Take pride in your smok-ly-ness
Need more proof the diesel can smoke a Prius driver? ok,
Not only can they smoke Prius Drivers ... they can smoke YOU too. And within 18 months, diesels will even smoke MORE of you than ever.

When the Prius finally gets some competition they will drop the price. With over a million sold at a premium price their R&D will have been paid for. Toyota will still be a step ahead of the competition. And some people aren't that impressed with BMW anyway.

That fact that a few of these freak cars are on the road (no longer available ... even if you had the $600/month lease fee) does NOT mean hydrogen cars are "available", nor will they ever will be. It didn't stop me from 'signing up' for one though, but the handfull were already assigned to the special people, as strictly a PR stunt to show that if you waste 100's of thousands, you CAN in fact make a hydrogen car. For Gawd sake, wake up & smell the coffee my friend. Since the 1970's hydrogen car availability was said to be 'only 10years away'. How many more decades must we hear this story, before the mony pit idea is relegated to the heap of lame ideas such as flying cars, & jet-pack belts??
