Due to some happy circumstances and perfect driving conditions, my Pri was sitting my driveway with 126 miles and 62.4 mpg. I was thrilled!! Alas, I knew it couldn't last. We were going to visit my son in Indiana. From Gurnee to route 41 south, a total of the tank of 197 miles I still had over 61 mpg. Then, my dream died...:hurt: Between traffic (I thought avoiding I65 would be a better bet) and my husband and daughter "encouraging" me to hurry up, it was into the 57's when we arrived. My daughter had to be home by a certain time. Result: 54.1 for 507 miles!! Arrgggh!! I know, most people would be overjoyed--but they aren't Prius owners!
Orracle, I visit my folks in So. IN 2-3 times a year. I usually take Hwy41 rather than I-65 because it's less traveled, less stressful, and I get better mileage. The way I get from the Tri-State to Hwy 41 is here ==> from:I-294 S/I-80 E @41.579170, -87.603040 to:E Exchange St @41.436250, -87.564180 to:41.39896,-87.470741 - Google Maps This route avoids much of the I-80 congestion. Another thing that helps with my mileage when I drive from Gurnee to So. IN is that I don't have kids.
How fast were you going? 60+MPG is quite impressive next time make the kid pay for the gas, see what happens!
It has been almost a week now that i have fully driven my Pri...and I have realized that i no longer speed. Speed does suck...I get to my destination, enjoying the drive while increasing my MPG. Life is much nicer when it's taken slower. Yes, that sounds corny...but it's true.
