I'm in the middle of putting the deposit with them. Have to take delivery in Florida and then ship it to Costa Rica. Anyone else here have one on order?
At over $100,000 for this vehicle, I have only ordered one in my dreams. Not everyone in the USA is rich.
For only $20k you could have bought a Miata. That's an $80k premium. That Tesla will never pay for itself. :loco:
I seriously can't part with the cash for a Tesla, fun it may be. No...wait... (looks at bank account) I don't have the cash for a Tesla, I'd have to sell my house. "Sure, Honey, we can make do living in a Tesla, think of the home insurance and property tax savings, let alone gas savings..." (BOFF, gets hit with cooking pan) ZC1
I don't think that people who are buying the Tesla are doing it for gas savings, they are paying for a concept.
Not only the concept, but the fact that it is a sports car. 0-60 in 4 seconds for the Tesla vs 0-60 in what, 6 or 7? To get that time you are looking at a much more expensive car than a miata. That said, the car just doesn't fit my style. I don't need nor want a roadster. I want a sedan. I will wait for their next model (due out in 2010).
...they still have to much problems with failing cells of the LiO-Pack.... Wonder how long is the guarantee there... Andreas
The Tesla Roadster is a rather unique vehicle from the perspective that there is nothing like it in commercial production. Before putting any money into a deposit, I would highly encourage you to take a test ride. I'm not saying that it is good or bad. However it really is a unique driving experience. (I know, I've taken a test ride in one.) Keith P.S. Yes, it really does 0 - 60 in about 4 seconds.
while it is a pretty looking car it is not a very original body design and reminds me of other sports cars. the price is just as stupid as other sports cars in that range/type of vehicles but one could save a ton of money by getting a different vehicle with the same specs but not electric. so i guess people are paying for a concept here. so in summary, if the car was not electric it would barely register in the news. an electric car that is $100,000 i reckon is not impressive at all even if sporty. i also failed to find out how long the battery charge lasts when you actually drive it like a sports car... or if you drive it like a liberal in a prius ;-)
Ohh great another "Whats the payback time" thread. If they buy a Porsche with the money instead lets figure the payback time on that too.
Uh, I think you'd better start checking up on prices. Anything comparable is up there with the Tesla. For example, Corvette, Ferrari, Porsche, etc. Just look up cars with 0-60 times under 4 sec., but not "muscle cars". They don't handle. I'd love to purchase one. They won't sell to Canadians and even if they did, I wouldn't wait a year for one. Good thing, because I don't have that kind of money to sink into a car.
Um. corvettes start at very reasonable prices compared to this tesla. Chevrolet | 2008 Corvette - Coupe & Convertible Sports Car It appears 75,000 will take home a top of the line Z06. A coupe with a lesser engine with be less then 50,000. 100,000 plus dollar car is really paying a premium for either the technology or brand name in my opinion. And this is all brand new. Imagine how much you could save by buying a slightly used one. Please be aware i have never owned a sports car and am unsure how fast these cars all go, 0 to 60. I am just doing basic research via google.
Thanks for the input guys.. I'm going to take the plunge - just sent the wire for the deposit I'll let you know when I get it and how it is.. My goal is to make my house here 100% solar and then I can pretty much drive for free as well (outside the cost of the car) I'm also looking at the electric kit for the Range Rover that they are selling in Europe - no word on that yet - but seriously investigating it
Yep, GM actually seems to have the low price point with that type of acceleration, kudos to them. So the other cars in that same family that cost 200k-500k. As such I would say the Tesla is quite resonably priced considering it is a sports car of such caliber. Add to that fact that mantainance is virtually zero and I would call it a winner. IF I could afford either of those cars, and I wanted the 0-60 time, I would buy the Tesla. If I wanted to spend less, I would by a Th!nk city
I really didn't think I had to explain that this comment was in jest. Apparently I was wrong. Sarcasm people.
You need to keep in mind that the Internet has enabled you to communicate with people whose skulls are many times thicker than the people you are used to communicating with. The humor was obvious. The reader was dense.
Thanks. You have increased the chance that we may actually get a viable electric car company established. This we need in the worst way. The most important key in making this happen is someone voting with their wallet....like you. Others and I may not be in the market for a sports car, but I am definitly in the market for a viable electric car that should follow the sports car. This only happens if the sports car is wildly successful.
The only way to change the direction of things today is to vote with the wallet. I'm the first person in Costa Rica with 2 Prius's and I'll even buy more for my employees if it helps. I have no problem in helping to fund in my own small way future technology that will help my children and their children.
