Hi guys,on April 29 I put down a deposit on a black #2 with an out the door price of $24,320,yeah great price. The sales person said it would be 6-8 weeks,no problem,8 weeks later ,no sign of the car, fair enough. My question is ,is this dealer going to sell me this car for 3 or 4 thousand less than he could get for it today?.The dealer is LEES TOYOTA,JAMAICA,NY.
1) What position were you on the list when you started? 2) Did you ask the dealer what his semi monthly (twice a month) allocation was? This allows you to determine if he's being upfront about the wait time. 3) Did you put a deposit down with a credit card? 4) Most importantly, did you get an "Out the door" final price on what you would pay?
Thanks Sorka,at the time I didnt know anything about waiting lists ,bi-monthly allocations, being totaly new to the prius madness.I paid a $500 deposit by check.Over the course of the past 2 months through several phone calls it seems like they didnt recieve any prius according to the salesperson which seems a little odd to me because its a big dealership, which also makes me think that they have actually had my $24,320 car and sold it for $26k or $27k.What do you think?
Sorry to say When I started looking in May and the sale guy from Lee also wanted a deposit but for over Msrp. 3 weeks ago I get an email from him starting they a Prius in stock BUT $4k over msrp. They are playing a game ..every dog has it's day. Hang in but I think we are in for a long wait.
Thanks alexMac56,you are right, you know theyre going to be playing games, getting a straight answer from these guys is impossible.
Please don't feel to bad. Today I get a cold call from some past inquires at Atlantic Toyota . Sales person indicates he has a prius right now on lot but is well over msrp. What happened to the poor people on their list?? Most dealers are playing the game. I have been on a list for a month, just msrp but i think that dealer is now charging above.. could be a long wait. If it works out I will let u know good luck
If you have it *in writing* then probably yes. I did, and still waited six months for mine (at four months I did refuse one of the wrong color). If you don't eventually get one then a chat with the attorney general's office is in order. If you don't have it in writing, then good luck.
Thanks Richard,I do actually have the price in writing signed by the manager,so I guess its just a matter of waiting it out.
Call the dealer. Don't tell them you are on the list... ask them what the chances of a black #2 are, find out how much they are charging for it... If they say they have one on the lot that is ready to be sold, I would take your signed paper (a copy of it) and go for a visit (out of the blue - of course) But that is just me... good luck
Same thing is happening to me. We bought the first of 2 Prius' back in mid-April and became #1 on the wait list for our second Prius. Yes I was the first person to be added to my dealer's wait list. I have a written deal for $950 below MSRP on the car we're waiting for. For the month of May we were waiting for a Black Touring/6 then we changed to ANY color Touring/6 first week in June. We made it a habit to stop in and chat with our salesman once a week. Normally he says "hang in there" "you're number 1 on the list....we just don't have any Touring/6s coming yet." Seemed like every time we stopped by, they had a Prius in the delivery cue (but not what we wanted). Last Saturday they had a Touring/6 going out the door to another customer! When I asked is that my car? They got a deer in the headlights look and said well we don't know where that car came from but we'll find out... It's now 4 days later and my salesman has still not called me to let me know what happened there. I called the general manager and he assured me they are not skipping people on the list and they will honor the deal they wrote. Yea Right! So here I am waiting to see if they are full of it or not. I would jump to another dealer but I know I wouldn't be getting a car any sooner or cheaper if I did that.
Just for the heck of it I called the next 3 dealers within 100 miles of my house and inquired as to the status of their Prius deals. The closest one said September and $1000 over MSRP. Next one said December and MSRP. The last said January and MSRP. I guess I will be stuck waiting for Panama City Toyota to come through for me.
