Well, I still think you are high because I couldn't fit in one, but I'm sure you will be very happy in your new Caliber.
I don't own a Caliber yet. And I'm sure I will be very happy in a Caliber. Thats because it actually has leg room, something that Toyota seemed to forget about with the Prius. Plus when I step on the pedal I expect a car to get its a$$ in gear, not wait to think about what it wants to do. What is so hard to believe about someone that is 6'1" and 290lbs fitting in a Caliber? Nothing, because I've done it a few times with ease. Time for a torsodectamy for you
The right choice if you are a midget, that wants zero power to get out of the way of unsafe conditions that may present themselves because of stupid other drivers, or dumba$$ in Prius' going 10mph under the speed limit to conserve fuel.
Hi Palau, Here are some talking poits. Aren't those things expensive? - ranked the lowest Total Overall Cost midsized car by Consumer Reports (somebody have a reference?). The savings are not only in gas, but brakes, starters and alternators. A package 2 Prius can be had for less than 24K MSRP.
Ok, I can understand people not liking a specific brand. Personally I love Dodges, the maintenance parts are cheap and I can work on them myself. So do the same math on a Toyota Corolla (which I bet is bigger or atleast the same size drivers area) which also costs right around $16000 and gets 35mpg Hwy. I bet it ends up taking 7 years to break even on that Prius.
Maybe you should look at the Matrix. I would have bought one of those if I hadn't bought the Prius. They actually have more headroom than a Prius, but not as wide, about the same as a Corolla.
my answer to any question about "why" a prius is this: when your at a light, going through a drive through or driving calmly down the road.. ou are often using NO GASOLINE AT ALL!
What is the obsession with breaking even or having the car pay for itself? Cars are a deprieciating asset. It's a losing endeavor from the minute you sign your sales contract. The only thing you obtain from a car is transportation and entertainment if you enjoy driving. The reasons people buy Pruis' are to save gas and/or not damage the environment as much as everybody else. I thought about the Corolla and even the Yaris but they are lacking in the amentities that I've grown accustomed too such as leather, NAV, Premium sound, backup camera, auto-ac, bluetooth, etc. These are things you normally have to spend 40K on a premium sedan to get. The fact that I got them all in 2008 for 2K less than I paid for my 2004 Accord EX in 2004 made me smile. I think the fact that there is a 9 month wait for the little underpowered toyota and not for the Dogde Caliber speaks volumes. You are indeed alone in your thinking.
The reason there is a 9 month wait is because people are panicking about gas prices and not thinking logically. They think buying a brand new prius is going to save them bundles of money, when it isn't. I would hope the prius would cost less than an accord. The accord is a much nicer vehicle. The prius lacks one of the things you say someone gets from a car, entertainment. Tell me you have more fun driving your prius than you did driving your accord.
Racer12306, You're obviously attempting to bait us. Isn't there another forum where you can waste your so valuable time? ZC1
One feature of PriusChat is supremely helpful when you encounter a racer12306 type: the Ignore User list! The only unfortunate part is that you have to view the repugnant profile to do it.
Yeah - my money, my car, my decision! You shouldn't have to justify your decisions to anyone unless you are asking them to pay for it.
Most of the talking points listed focus on the Prius as a hybrid. One of the factors I considered was just comparing it as a car, using the Injury, Collision and Theft Losses tables. See here: http://www.libertymutual.com/omapps/ContentServer?cid=1058289250434&pagename=PersonalMarket%2FDocument%2FShowDoc&c=Document You will need to move down to Page 2 and so on for the actual scores. I pulled up the figures for the Prius and for the other cars I was thinking about. Prius rated better on each and very point. Not just a little better, a LOT better! I was surprised (my other choices didn't seem THAT bad!) Toyota Prius 4dr Injury 74 Better than Average Collision 108 Average Theft 16 Substantially Better than Average
You have in your information you have a Prius, have you sold the lump of snot yet? Advertise it on Prius Chat, see how long till you get a buyer. Enjoy your what was the other car, um, boring, um oh yeah there is it, enjoy your Caliber what ever that is. Here's to a speedy sale and the end of your suffering.
I'm 6'2", 250lbs and had no problem fitting in the Prius. Ditto my 5'11" wife. We borrowed one for a weekend from some friends before getting on the wait list to make sure our family of four would fit. We had quite a bit more room than in our Passat Wagon, and almost as much as in our Sienna, both of which are getting traded in for our new Prius any day now, that we're getting for MSRP, by the way.
Don't know much about Toyota parts prices, I have been driving Toyota almost exclusively for 20 years and currently have 4 Toyotas in the household I maintain so I haven't had to buy many parts. One Toyota I have is a 1968 Crown. I got out of working as a mechanic, yes I am qualified, because I hate fixing cars, another reason I drive Toyota. I do change the oil sometimes under protest, I think it is about time Toyota made sealed for life engines, never change the oil for 300,000 miles. You hear that Toyota?
