Is it possible to power off the hybrid system but leave the radio on? That is, a reverse sequence to what happens during Power On if you don't press the breaks (be able to use the radio without the car going into Ready state). thanks, rz
Yes. As you repeatedly press the POWER button without depressing the brake pedal, you will cycle through the following three states: IG-OFF (where all power is off) ACC-ON (where the MFD lights up but the instrument panel lights remain off) IG-ON (where the instrument panel lights are on) To run the stereo, you want to select the ACC-ON position. Do not leave the car IG-ON for an extended period of time as this will quickly drain the 12V auxiliary battery.
Patrick, I'm not certain, but it sounds like rs is already aware of how to cycle through those 3 states. It seems like rz is looking for a way to go directly from "Ready" to ACC-ON or perhaps from ready to IG-ON and from IG-ON to ACC-ON. I don't think it is possible. If the car is in "Ready" state, I think the only way to get to ACC-ON is to first turn the car off, and then to ACC-ON.
Thanks. Yes as Patrick pointed out I'm aware of going from off to ACC-ON to On (or Ready). I was looking for the reverse sequence (from Ready to ACC-ON without passing through OFF state). I can do so on my Camry Hybrid but have not figured it on Prius. Seems such a natural/intuitive/symmetric state transition... (to me anyways) rz
Hi RZ, Yes - I believe that the cycle only works in one direction; hence to move from READY to ACC-ON you must first pass through IG-OFF.
The added benefit of leaving the car in READY is that it recharges the 12v battery that plays your radio so you don't end up like me..... Killing the battery a couple times playing the radio for hours while detailing it. Duuhhhhh... ZC1
Answer: no, there is no way to directly go to ign on from ready. Workaround: turn the car off first, and then go to ign on from off.
I am aware that this is an 11 year old thread. Rz1 wanted to know whether it is possible to power off the Gen 2 Prius without interrupting the radio. I don’t see where anyone believed it possible. But yes it is possible. You can accomplish this if the car is still braking and moving slowly when you press POWER. I’m not recommending it, but does anyone think this is a bad idea? While gently braking to a stop in drive at say, 3mph, I press and firmly hold the power button AFTER pressing the brake pedal. If I confidently do not release the power button or the brake pedal after pressing POWER, the car comes to a smooth stop, gently shifts itself into park, and goes directly from Ready to ACC-ON. I give it one or two more seconds to be sure and then release both the brake and the button. The radio stays on. This works every time in both our old 2008 and our “new” 2009 Prius.
