ALL OF THESE DEALERS HAVE PRIUS' ON THE LOT AT OR BELOW MSRP. And I quit looking, just because I got bored. I'm sure the farther west (from Sacramento) you go towards San Francisco, there will be plenty more Prius' available.
The online inventory numbers you see are just the current prius's coming off the truck and going to their new owners from the semi-monthly allocations(twice a month). Any Prius's you actually see sitting on lots are marked up $5K to $10K over MSRP. Many dealers will sell at MSRP and have a waiting list but keep a few Prius's on the lot as there is the occasional customer that would bite the bullet and not do the calculation to to realize that you'd have to drive an *extra* 125,000 miles to make up a $10K markup at $4 / gallon gas.
Got this email on Tuesday Mossy Toyota makes it happen! WE HAVE A NEW AND MULTIPLE USED PRIUS' IN STOCK RIGHT NOW!! Contact the Internet Sales Team. Hurry before they're gone... 888 38 MOSSY(6-6779) Haha, A new as in 1?
Where are they advertising this markup? It's not on the window sticker right? I ask because like Snowdog, I see Prius' on the lot up in Sacramento all the time. I was trying to help my ex buy a Camry at Folsom Lake Toyota and they have 3 Prius' for sale on the lot and 2 that just came in for species orders and were being prepped. At our Earth Day event on my campus I had Auburn Honda and Toyota there displaying hyrbids and they didn't mention anything about shortages and waiting lists. This was in April though.
Yup. All the way through the end of April, many dealerships had 100+ Prius's sitting on their lots. That all changed in one weekend.
Yeah...there's one Toyota dealer for about 50 miles here. When we purchased our car in mid-April, they had 4 '08 Priuses (3 new, 1 used) on the lot. Within 2 weeks they had a waiting list. Now there are 16 people on the list. It changed rapidly.
