First Oil Change Today at Dealership

From what I hear, your dealership is using a menu select program, or something like that, that's why it costs so much. The dealship here doesn't and they go by actual maint performed. Here's the breakdown:
5K - $50
10K - $50
15K - $120
20K - $50

The 15K is expensive because that's when they'll go in and start replacing filters. They also have a program they just started called E-Oil Service. You buy 3 oil changes at $109.95, saving $54.95 off regular price, and get some other discounts and bonus stuff along the way. Supposed to be a pretty good deal, from what Bob told me, service guy.

My oil change/tire rotation cost me somewhere near $30. I did it at a Buick dealer, because I know the owner and the service manager. They run a clean business.

I just went in for the 5000 mile service. This was my first oil change at the Toyota Dealership where I bought the Prius. They overfilled it by 1/2 qt and didn't stamp the maintenance log book either, it was left on the passenger seat as per their instructions in order to be stamped.

I actually had the team leader show me the oil level when the car was done. When I pointed out that it was over full he stated that, "It needs to set over night in order to get an accurate measurement." What a line of BS, my husband and I both checked it in our flat garage as soon as returning home from the dealership and found it indeed over filled.

A phone call to the dealerships service manager with an immediate trip back to the dealership corrected the problem but I still registered a written complaint with the Customer Relations Dept. in hopes that this will help prevent it from happening to others.

Since this dealer sells and services many Prius' over filling was a surprise, glad we checked. Most alarming was the first team leader saying that it was okay and it just needed to sit overnight before checking the level. Turns out the team leader has only been with them a month or so and an Apprentice did the job.

We have to wonder if they actually rotated the tires!

DEFINITELY CHECK THE OIL LEVEL YOURSELF AFTER ANYONE ELSE CHANGES THE OIL ! ! !

 

I keep a chalk pen in the glove compartment. Mark the tires I, II, III, IIII. Caught the, so called, oversight, ahem!, several times.

 

Jeez! As if the oil level would go down the longer it sat... or maybe he expected that their technicians didn't re-install the drain plug correctly :_>

 

Mine haven't stamped my logbook either, I had to go in both times. Bob's a good guy and says he told the guys to do it, who knows.

I do have to wonder about my brake pads/shoes check. They say they did but my rear shoes grew 2mm since my last service. I wonder if they'll continue to grow throught their life.

 

I just got back from my first 5k service: oil change and tire rotation at Long Beach Toyota.

Total cost? $103.12

Oil change with Mobil1 5w30 with labor was 79.95.
Tire rotation was another 19.95.

Wow. I think I may need to look to another dealership for my future scheduled maintenances. The oil level is fine, though. <:0)

 

15K Service complete and here's the breakdown:

As previously stated the 15K service would have cost $120. With the service plan Bob clicked on the $100 cooopun and balance was $0. Where does the the extra $20 come from? Who knows.

Front brakes grew 1mm from 8mm to 9mm and rear brakes lost 2mm back to the 5K service thickness of 6mm. Tires worn to 6/32. I still don't think they're checking all 4 brake pads.

Rotated tires, changed oil and that's about it. Though I did find a sticker on my windshield stating my next oil change would be at a 3k interval. Interesting since the other 2 stickers I've discarded indicated a 5k interval.

Parts breakdown on the invoice was the same as 5k and 10K but the labor charge is 4x higher. Tax between $40 and $100 was up $0.05. That's some fuzzy math Toyota's doing.

Oh well, another happy road trip to San Diego in the books.
