Hi Pat, The original photo was quite difficult to deal with. This is a wire harness connector behind the "instrument panel finish panel lower center"; and its purpose is to provide 12VDC and ground.
Pat, we still have about 12 hours to go. Anyways, I can see you've tapped into this voltage source. What did you use it for? Patrick, 12VDC and ground to WHAT? ZC1
Some people have WAY too much time on their hands! Quite entertaining however! Icarus PS I guess the strut tower bolt on that thread.
Icarus, The photo in question is a white connector submitted by Pat. The photo you tried to answer is finished, plus it's the wrong answer. ZC1
According to the rules, All anwers, to be valid, must include both "What it is" and "What is it's purpose" in ONE post. ZC1
Still no one has it right. I got 12 volts from here to run my hardwired GPS mount, additional power outlet to run a laptop computer and my tyre pressure sensor system which I have now removed because one of the valve stems failed. The pressure sensors were attached to special valve stems with thread in the base. Turns out the rubber in the stems was prone to crack. You can see where I have earthed a wire into the steel part, tech screw and blue crimped connector. Another clue, I already said I removed one part to see this, I didn't need to undo any screws.
Where it is: Inside the front of the dash immediately in front of the passenger. What is it's purpose: To provide a 12v source to the glovebox light. ZC1
No, it seems no one has got it. It most likely isn't anywhere people look because there is nothing there to play with except this connection. As I said, it isn't near any computers or anything terribly high tech. Could this be a little heavy, maybe I could have picked something lighter? Looks like you're the chups but because the photo I used first was very close up I'll leave giving an answer until I get home from work in 10 hours. Can't be fairer than that now can I?
I'm a chump for sure, but still, It's the power connector for the 12v power outlet (otherwise known as cigarette lighter outlet) located behind the front of the dash in the passenger compartment. ZC1
Well done Evan, 5 or 6 hours late but you're up. It is in the back of the centre console and is the power supply to the power outlet in the centre console box. I found this to be the easiest place to pick up an ignition switched power supply for my other accessories. Australian Prius does not have a power outlet under the dash but only the one in the console box. Here is my rear outlet I added to supply power for my laptop to allow my son to watch DVDs or me to use a laptop while I travel (not while I drive). While I was adding this I also took a wire from here to power my GPS and tyre monitor and ran the wire under the carpet. To access this you pull the cup holders in the back of the console back and upward at about 10 to 15 degrees.
Just enough room in there and ideal for someone in the back seat. My tyre pressure monitor had a lighter plug with fuse in it so I have another lighter outlet inside the cover under the front dash but it is concealed.
Come one guys, it's been almost 12 hours. One of ya ought to be able to shed some light on this one. It's not even that obscure.
Okay, I kept seeing this thread title go by and kept ignoring it, thinking it was yet another one of those useless "word" games. Surprise! . Hey pat -- those valve stems that cracked, were they perchance from Dill Air Controls? [I'm gonna post another thread about this, because the brown stuff is hitting the fan bigtime on this particular issue] . Note that I'm *not* hazarding a guess on Evan's pic yet because if I get it that means I have to go tear the car apart trying to find another good one, and I'm not gonna have much time this week. . _H*
What it is: A Skid Control ECU sensor Where is it located?: Attached to left side rear axle and to the left side undercarriage. ZC1
