I am planning to do some electric modifications on the external JBL amplifier and NAV module but I would rather prefer not to cut any wires but instead build extensors for the existing connectors. Does anybody know where can these connectors be purchased from? or in general electric parts for the Prius?
Dang! I spent one hour making a post for this and it's gone! Here's the shortened version: Everything you want to know can be looked up in the 2004 Prius Electrical Wiring Diagram and the general Toyota Wiring Repair manual. I have both of these. Tell me you want to do and I'll post the part numbers for the connectors and pins. (Including the inverse connector and pins). I'm too lazy to post my giant connector and pin lookup How-To right now. I'll do it once the board settles in. Nate
Thanks naterprius, I actually have both manuals, Electrical Wiring Diagram and the general Toyota Wiring Repair manual. The thing is, once I have the part numbers for the connectors I want, where can I go and order them? Thanks.
SynergyGuy, There's several places on the web including: http://www.millionbuy.com Also, there's several vendors selling them on eBay. Also, check out Ebay for Canada. There's a guy on there with tons of harnesses. If you can't see what you're looking for, email some of these folks. I haven't looked for the Prius, but the harnesses are less car specific. A particular radio manufacturer uses but a couple of harnesses for all of their car systems, OEM and otherwise. Cheers, -bob
You can order all connectors and pins at the Toyota Dealership. There's this website as well. http://www.toyotapart.com Note the "Part # Search" on the lower left of the page. For example, the part number for the connector that goes into the Amp (for speaker output) is 90980-10821. It shows (as of today) as costing $4.85. Wiring pigtails (82998-12340) for the connector are $3.75 each. The opposite connector, 90980-10820, is showing as costing $7.27. The wiring pigtails for the opposite connector (82998-12330) are $3.75 each as well. (All plus shipping and tax). You may be able to use the pins from a Metra stereo kit for this connector, saving quite a bit of money. (You'll have to test the fit yourself). Nate
How did you find the part numbers for the connectors? I want to do the same as SynergyGuy but with the MFD connectors. I was able to find the part numbers for the female connectors for the MFD, but I cant find the part numbers for the male connectors that plug into the MFD. Also, where can I find part numbers for the wires that go into the connectors? Thanks Chris
What year is your Prius? If it's a 2004-5 w/JBL, you can use a Bazooka sub harness. It splices into the existing amp wiring, so you can tap into the wires in the harness rather than the existing wiring. This way you can cut and splice all the wires you want without having to touch a single wire in the car. And if you ever want to put things back, you just take out the harness, reconnect, and it's back to the way it left the factory. The advantage of this over obtaining the connectors separately (and potentially having to populate the connector w/pins and wires) is that it is pre-made.
Not for the connection the OP is looking for, but for anyone who wants an easy connection to replace the receiver, Scoche has one (but it is expensive): Scosche Interface for Toyota JBL Systems Allows you to install an aftermarket stereo and retain the JBL system in your 2003-up Toyota at Crutchfield.com
I'm looking to cut my speed wires (for NAV and BT) because at the time I planned it I had no source of connectors to build an extension with. It's already too late for the anytime-reverse-camera -- I've already cut those wires -- but it would be nice to preserve the tinier speed wires. So I stumble upon this thread. I'm hoping someone can help me out with the identification of the connectors and pins that I will need to extend the connector behind the left passenger-side air vent (in other words, the vent directly to the right of the stereo). There's a bank of connectors in there and I'm looking for the one with two purple wires going into it. (Here's a picture from darelldd's site - although he may be crediting it to "Evan," not quite sure.) Any help would be greatly appreciated.
