Ordered mine about 3 weeks ago and was told a minimum of 6 to 8 weeks and it could be more. Also the 08 order could turn into an 09. Either way hope springs eternal and its worth the wait. Dealership located In New York.

We're about 30 days into our wait and we said we weren't "in a hurry" which is true but it IS hard waiting.

As I've mentioned, I have one already and hubby had a chance at one in a color he liked but not the package and one in a package but not the color. He passed. I wouldn't have!

For our 04's we waited 6 months. That was the standard all those years ago. The dealerships were recommending to ask for a package & take whatever color came in (except silver, that was a different list at our dealer.... the wait was around 9 months because of request popularity)

We got on the list 1 week apart from each other. That week had his come in a full month earlier then mine... Fortunately, we both got colors we loved. (Truthfully though I would not have turned down any color, only package)

Call your dealers periodically to find out where you are on the list.

    Good Luck!

I put my deposit down on May 1st. I was told then it would be approx. 4 weeks. Needless to say that day has long passed. Called my dealership the other day & talked to the GM there. Was told it would probably be 3-4 months longer. That didn't seem right to me so I called around to other dealerships in the Austin/San Antonio area. Was told if I got on their "list" then it would be anywhere from 4 months to 1 year. I really don't understand why we are having such longer wait times here in the Austin area.

My experience is that the more open you are about color and package the shorter your wait will be.

Rather than stick with a Magnetic Grey Package 2 (for example) I allowed any of 4 or 5 colors and Package 2, 5 or 6. My time between deposit and being in the allocation was 2 weeks.

Of course, if your wants are very specific then you should ask for that and wait.

PD - just curious: what package did you end up with? The reason I ask is my dealership said they have a longer list for package 2's and the fact I want a 6 or 5 (with aftermarket leather) may work to my advantage because people are passing those up.

I also remained open on my colors, but I'm really praying for red....:pray2:

    I'll be getting a 6.

Initially I just wanted a 2 but realized that Toyota might be shipping more 6s than 2s for the additional profit. I originally OK'd a 2 or a 6, but then added 5 after I researched aftermarket leather.

I've kept track of the package levels in the online inventory at 2 local dealers over the past month. One (where I'll be getting the 6) has had 4 2s, one 4, two 5s and a 6. The other has had two 2s, four 5s and five 6s.

I joined the waiting list on May 15th and was #3 in line at a smaller dealership (only gets 2 in a month). I received an e-mail saying mid-July looked probable, but my specificity will probably cause me problems ... Black Touring, Package 6.

I got on the list for a package 2, gray, classic silver or black June 2nd at a local Minneapolis dealership and was told 4-6 months. A few days ago, I was corresponding with the internet salesman and he told me I was #165. Of the 164 people in front of me only 67 people would accept a package 2. And of those people, there were quite a few that had specific color criteria that had to be met. If what he said actually sticks, I should be in much better shape than initially perceived.

I thought about waiting for the next gen, but then decided against it as I'm not a firm believer in 1st year re-mods. http://priuschat.com/forums/images/smilies/yo.gif

I bought my Prius in Central Maine in late April, and there were always 2 or 3 available (each) at two dealers 20 miles apart. I have been tracking their (both dealers) new inventory off and on since. On rare occasions they have a Prius available. Plus they no longer list the prices online (plz call). I feel like I was one of the last that got a fair trade-in on a truck. Plus I was able to get -600 dollars off of the MSRP and wait only 4 days for my choice color of car. The availability is a lot better here from what I have been reading, but it also appears to be getting more competitive with each passing day. I am glad I followed my gut feeling instead of waiting. I would have had to pay the hiked costs, and I would have had less of a trade-in value on my Tundra. Hang it there, it's worth it!

    You're buying the first round!!

    ^^^
That's unfortunately my reality!! Whoever said patience is a virtue never drove or ordered a Prius !!

    ^^^
Well, I was given the same story, except the dates keep changing on me.
I wonder if they will honor their original price now ??

    ^^^^
I find that in TX, GA and FL the wait times are much longer than those anywhere else....or am I wrong?

THANKS everyone. I was just feeling all alone in my wait !!!!

Hang in there, sometimes you get good news. I ordered on May 2nd, just got the car on June 11th! It was almost exactly the 6 weeks I was told. I did have to take the second choice color (wanted the red, got the gray), but it is still beautiful! The dealer told me those on the bottom of the list (around 45 people and growing by 3-4 each day) might be waiting until Christmas!

Happy I made my decision to buy when I did!

    Leslie,
Didn't you ever hear the Carly Simon song "Anticipation"? The Toyota dealerships in Chicago were very short on Prius' in April when I got mine. I had a primary dealer I worked with and about 20 sales people calling me from other dealerships trying to get me on exclusive $1000.00 deposit. I resisted the temptation of the deposit because it shut me out of the entire Toyota dealership network. What I found was they were still ready to sell me a Prius when they became available, like demos driven by sales people, for example. The one primary I depended on was a salesman who told me if he saw one in the pipeline he would call me and I would have to rush down to his dealership on the spot with my deposit. I purchase two previous Toyotas from him so he knew me and valued my business. I lucked out and the Prius I wanted was headed for the dealership was in Portland Oregon. It took 2 weeks for delivery.
Keep in mind, not all dealerships are equal. Some of the larger dealerships get the larger allotments of Prius'. Also, I found the dealers that try the hardest to get your security deposits may be the same dealers that take advantage of your exclusive sales arrangements, particularly now. I think timing is critical, especially now. Good luck and you will be one hot momma in your new Prius!
BTW, I still was receiving calls from other salesmen up to two weeks ago...Terry

    welcome to the group, becka.
I may just take your suggestion to add more colors to my choice list.
I hate trade-offs, but I hate the wait even more !!

Concerning the TX wait list question:

The average wait at my dealership here in Houston is 9 weeks. Mine was said to be about 8 weeks. Talking with people who bought the Prius from that dealership they've been able to tell me that holds pretty true. Some waited about 10 weeks some waited significantly shorter.

I cannot imagine why the wait in Austin is so much longer than Houston other than the Port of Houston is where the shipment delivers to and people in Austin love their Priuses. I was there last weekend and saw a Prius about every 5 cars. I'd imagine the wait lists are a lot longer? At my dealership the list is "only" 27 people and I'm number 12.

So to me the wait in Houston seems a lot shorter than many other places in the US

But yes this wait is killing me! I already sold my car (2004 mustang gt) for a great price that I couldn't wait on while gas prices kept rising and more and more people getting into more efficient vehicles. I'm having to drive my parents "retirement" car around and leaving them high and dry
