I would like to get all 4 of the side windows and the hatchback tinted on my 08 Prius. I called a local automotive glass place just a few miles from my house and asked how much. They quoted me a price of $185, said they have 3 shades of tinting and that it can be done in about 2-3 hours.

I know nothing about windowing tinting and wanted to know if this price sounds like a good price, I am hearing people saying they paid over $400 to get their windows tinted. So I don't know if this price I was quoted it too low and I should question the quality. They said they use some kind of "Global" tinting something or other film, I have no idea what they are really talking about.

I wanted to stop in their place after work today and take a look at the shades they have and then I would like to have an idea of what I am talking about when I ask more questions.

But for right now, I would like to know the different prices that you all paid to have your windows tinted, and if this includes all 4 side windows and the back window, and what about those tiny little triangle windows? Did you do those as well??

    Thanks,

    seems like a good price

I'm also planning on doing tinting soon.

I'd like it reasonably dark without screwing with my own visibility. Any % suggestions?

Also, are there any tips or things to avoid regarding the installer or products they use? Last time I had a car tinted was in 1992 and back then you often had to deal with little bubbles and other crap. A single bubble would drive me batty if it was visible.

you really need to look at what the percentage of darkness your state allows when it comes to tinting.

I did 35% all around and its not too dark...absolutely no problem seeing out the windows.

you shouldn't have a problem with bubbles as long as you get a tint person who knows what they are doing

good luck and keep us updated!

I'm not vouching for the complete accuracy of this, but tintdude is a good resource to determine your state's restrictions. I would double check it with your state statutes (findlaw.com) to be certain.

There are different quality of tints you can get. Some are 100% metallic with no dyes, some are metallic with dyes, and some are non-metallic dyed. The most expensive are 100% metallic, next expensive is metallic with dyes, and the cheapest is the non-metallic kind. There are different tint levels to the dyed forms. The dyed type block 50-60 percent of the suns heat from entering the car and 99% of the UV rays. The metallic tints are not dark at all (you can barely notice the car has tint) but they block 100% of the suns heat from entering the car and 99% of the UV rays. Here in FL the prices range from $199 (for the prius) for the full metallic to 139 for the non-metallic dyed.

i'd say tinting prices depends on location.

around here in norcal, the 9-10 windows would run around 250-300 for a good job, and 300-350 for the ceramic thrown in.

got ceramic 35% rear 5 (i didn't tint the bottom hatch window) and 50% front 4 for a little below $300. i wanted to live with the bottom factory-tinted hatch window untinted for a while to see if i didn't need to apply additional tint due to the relative lightness of the 35% tint. so far, i'm impressed on how the 35% matched up to that bottom window. from the inside, in really sunny conditions, you can tell that the bottom is slightly higher in percantage (probably around a 45%). but due to the angle and how there spoiler-thing covers it, they look like they match from most angles outside.

... if that makes any sense...

The pricing will also depend on the maker of the tint and the material. Ceramic tint is going to be more expensive than run-of-the-mill tinting. Tint from Formula One or Huber Optik is going to be more expensive than a no-name tint, and for good reason too.

true. i the place i went to applied formula one ceramic tint, hence the relatively hefty price on just the 9 windows.

I paid $175 for everything but the windshield. They said the windshield tint is illegal in Florida and that I would have to sign a waver so it is clear. Includes the "little" windows. IF I added the windshield it would have been another $125.

Justanotherasian, where in Norcal did you get your windows tinted? Here in Sacto the ceramic is being quoted to me at nearly $500, which is just a bit too steep for me.

before you make any decisions, google huper optik and compare against this. It might cost $100 more to be done but is well worth it. After reviewing the details on this, I am totally sold on it.

I had huper optik put on both my wife's and my Prii 3 years ago because I was worried about effecting GPS signals, SKS etc. It cost about $400.00 each. We now have our two new cars and we went with the new Llumarr axcess film, specifically made for this purpose. Looks as good as the Huper Optik and much more reasonable. It was 215.00 for each including strip on front windows ( small windows included on Prius) They look great and no signal problems.

Well, my husband beat me to the tinting place, he just called me and he took his Pontiac Grand Am over there and they quoted him $165 so he is getting it done right this minute,, I am so jealous,, but at least I get to see what kind of job they do on his beater car before I take my Prius over there, he said they have all these pics on their computer that can show you what the car would look like with the different tints. So I think I'll probably be over there this Saturday getting mine done if I like the way his Grand Am looks.
