Just a few days at 60 - 62 degrees and I'm up 2 MPG, primarily in town driving! Amazing. Any other Seattle/Vancouver/Portland folks seeing this, too? Bob
Ya, definately seeing the same thing in Vancouver - as soon as the weather warms up, the engine shuts off MUCH faster after heading to work in the morning. This morning with 12c temps, the engine shut off by the time I hit a light about 2 minutes away from my condo. When it was 3c or colder, it usually took to the 3rd light, which is about 5-6 minutes away. Nice additional milage! Dave
Don't know if it was the weather or my newly learnt pedal "feathering", but we are averaging 43 (and climbing) on our first tank of gas!!! Atul (Black BC, Portland)
Even for me in Southern California the temps are up and my mileage has suddenly bumped up into the 53-55 range overall. Let's hope for more!
My display has been showing around 5.0-5.2 L/100 km for the last month or two. This last week it has gone down to 4.5 L/100 km. Vancouver, BC
I'm noticing this in Boston as well. My mileage dropped in Dec/Jan/Feb, and now it's going back up. I got a 100-bar during normal driving on my way in to work this morning, which hasn't happened (without traffic) since November... I'm also getting better at keeping the mpg high with "feathering" and all that, but I'm pretty sure the weather is a big factor. Less time spent heating the engine and heating the cabin.
I've just got my car in Portland, but I've defintely been suprised at how good the mileage is after reading months of complaints on message boards. My first 5-minute bar this morning was only a tiny hair under 50mpg! Jeff in Portland
Here in the SF Bay Area temps shot up to the 80s. I'm now averaging 50 on my hilly commute. I was averaging 47-48 before this week in mid-60s weather. And summer gas isn't even here yet. Woohoo!
56 degrees on my drive in this morning.. ran without heater or A/C, filled the tank after the first few miles (which reset the mpg counter), and hit 68.8 mpg for the remaining 15 miles of my normally-upper-50's commute! Was over 70 mpg until the last minute of it Nice day!
Wow! Is this the first sign that, come July, all the news articles saying that the Prius doesn't live up to it's MPG ratings are going to have to eat their words? (Or at least amend them with "in winter".)
I hope some publications test the Prius again now in the warmer weather. With the current hot spell (70F+) in VA, my commute mileage jumped from 46 to 50 -- almost 10%, and this at nearly 75MPH on my 125-mile interstate drive. I am totally impressed by my Prius. Wow, 50MPG at real highway speeds, in a mid-sized car. I've turned into such a fuel-economy geek.
