not a bad idea to get instant responces. ill use it in the future only for important questions. as for the P button it works and thats good enough for me!
8) TonyPSchaefer, Very nice, however, I must thank Tempus for providing the needed information in which to answer [jeepien's] question.... Ben
Ken, I love to read Japanese, except I don't understand what these beautifull symbols mean Seriously - do you know if the manual is available in english?
hehe. That's cool though for personalised messages. Didn't Danny do that for a message a long while back?
I think there is no English version of the CD-ROM manual from Japan. However, there is an online subscription site in the U.S. http://techinfo.toyota.com/ Regards, Ken@Japan
That's right - it was meant to be secret information. But now that some info from the emergency response guide has been quoted on the site, the secret's out! Looking forward to skiing at Alta in February...
Uh, I'm Snarfo and I don't ever recall posting anything in this thread nor would I be so arrogant as to say (or imply) I'm some kind of Prius diety--- I still have ~2 months to go before I even get mine. No need for hazing and insults when the victim is guiltless, eh?
So basically TonyPSchaefer and his ill-considered rudeness can go get boned, as my idol from Futurama would say...
Snarfo, Don't get mad at Tony. The confusion began with a little bit of code that Jeepien put in a different message on a different thread. When this code is used, I see the word "Marg" in the message, you see the word "snarfo", jayman seens the word "jayman" and so on.... Tony quoted Jeepien's original post in this thread (possibly not intentionally) which caused the confusion to spread a little bit. Now, while you're seeing "snarfo" in Tony's message, I'm seeing "Marg". See what I mean?
Alright, I suppose I have to apologize here. I was reading and posting with a keyboard in one hand and a dirty martini in the other. Friends don't let friends post drunk. Anyway. If you click the (Post Reply) button under the thread, you go to the Reply page. On that page, you will see a series of buttons for formatting (B,I, and U) and insertion of pictures, URLs, and the such. In the bottom row, there's a button called (YOU) for the insertion of the reader's screen name. Anywhere I insert the (YOU) command, you read your screen name. And yes, a better use is bulk email personally addressed to each reader, as done by by Danny some time ago. EXAMPLE: go like you are going to create a post, use the (YOU) command, and hit [Preview] to see your own name in the previewed message. Of course I knew this all along and so did Jeepien. That's why I congratulated him on such an excellent use of the command. It became apparent to me when I realized that he named me specifically though others were answering as though they had been named. There's only one way to do that. Sorry if I offended anyone. What was interpreted as ill-considered rudeness was intended to be a humorous continuation of the use of the (YOU) command. But more than anyone else, it's you, [YOU], that I'm sorry I offended. Because you are my favorite.
Lol... I saw my name come up through clever use of the YOU command, and I did know the answer... So here it is: "The shift control actuator is mounted on the side of the hybrid transaxle. Upon receiving an actuation signal from the transmission control ECU, the motor in the actuator rotates to move the parking lock rod, which slides the parking lock pawl, thus causing the parking lock pawl to engage with the parking gear that is installed on the counter driven gear. As a result, the hybrid transaxle is locked or unlocked mechanically."
So an electric motor pushes an actuator rod and moves the pawl into the splines? I can't wait until my shop manual arrives, there is a LOT to learn about this car. A similar electric motor arrangement actuated the front axle disconnect on my 2000 GMC Sierra. Believe it or not, the front axle came factory filled with 80W-90, even for models sent to Canada and Alaska. 80W-90 turns solid at -12 F. When I took delivery of my GMC, after a 1,000km break-in, I drained the front axle and refilled with a synthetic 75W-90. The dealer claimed I was nuts, wasting money, etc etc. Then there were a rash of front axle failures. When the gear oil turned solid, the electric motor would burn out trying to move the actuator pawl in the front axle. The fork would usually force the collar just far enough on the splines to cause grinding, which would quickly destroy the axle. I received notification of the TSB warning all dealers to immediately drain and refill every front axle on the lot, and to call their customers ASAP to do the same. Hehehe. The Toyota CVT appears to already use a synthetic transmission fluid, so I wouldn't worry about the parking pawl motor burning out unless you were in Siberia. But "torque lock" on a hill is another matter. Use the parking brake, it's a good habit to get into.
As usual, cooler Canuck heads prevailed. Perhaps Marg should run for President down here... I had just woken up to pee in the wee hours and skimmed the posts and saw my name being dragged through the mud and grouchily-yet-eloquently did my thing. Thanks for the clarification!
No problem, Tony. Can't break up a mutual admiration society over that. I don't know the nuances of the (ubb?) code, but anytime you use the Quick Quote button, the CODE of the post to which you are replying will appear. Guess I've just gotten enough bulk mail to be suspicious. jeepien (I'm a name dropper too!), you may wish to search for the threads along the line of "Do you bother to use the P button?"
haha. its been a while since i've read the posts here. if i had known my name had been mentioned i would have answered the post. ah well....maybe next time someone will PM me.
Wow, thanks for the compliment! I just stumbled on this thread.. I'm really not an expert on the Prius at all! I didn't really know how it functioned but knew it was something along the lines explained here by those who really know the workings of the Prius. P.S. In case anyone's confused my avatar is the Toyota Formula 1 logo. I'm in no way connected to Toyota at all! Just a fan! EDIT: Oh, .... OK, neat trick!
LOL, awesome joke. I kept replying.I need this on my site. I was thinking wow....how did I end up in this coversation and its been a while since I posted.
Me too! Alta, Cottonwood, and Deer Valley have more than their fair share of snow, especially this year. But I'd never seen the kind of cold like here in Winnipeg. It's so cold, a certain body part will shiver so violently that it sounds like two coconuts rattling together.
