Help figuring out sale price for '06 pkg 3

Just use edmunds.com. I think your car as is should be 16-19k as you have the HOV stickers. I would say as always, list the car on craigslist. If no one calls, you have it too high. I think the interest in the car would be quite high now and I would start at 20K and see if anyone calls.

 

I'd put it on eBay and let the market figure out the final price. I just bought a 06 package 2 for $21,500 and the guy selling it to me had more than a few offers willing to pay much more to take it!

 

From what I'm seeing, you could easily get over $20k for it.

 

Guy in my office just sold a Black '06 with similar mileage and HOV decals for $24k. Don't know what package he had, or if he had any extras on it. I personally wasn't willing to pay that for a colour I wasn't all that interested in having, so he and I couldn't deal.

The NPR article in April 2007 put the premium of the California HOV sticker at that time as approximately $4000.

Recently (April 2008) a PriusChatter sold his Prius with the HOV sticker at $3500 above Kelly Blue Book value.

I re-read your ad. You have new paint on an '06?

Did you wreck out and, if so, does this mean your car now has a salvage title? Either situation would really make me question if it would be worth what you might otherwise expect.

Edit: I've been looking back through some of your postings, seeing if you'd mentioned what happened to your car for it to need new paint, and came across the "Long Term Storage" thread in which you mention that you're going to store your car under a cover. I hope the paint was more than 6 months old before you first covered it?

I may be the person Boo was referring to. I sold my 2007 #4 w/HOV a couple months ago for 3.5K over KBB. Based on what I've seen and read I would think you can do better now with the drought of Prii we are currently facing, at least until the '09 model comes out in a few months. It was mentioned in this thread that another one similar to yours was sold at $24K - you may be able to get this much from the right buyer who has a long commute in traffic and is desperate for the HOV privilege (this is the kind of person who bought mine, and that was before the "shortage" started). Others will probably disagree with me, but in the current market I'd be surprised if you got less than $20K for your car, provided the title isn't salvaged as a previous poster mentioned. Dude (or Dudette)...It's not rocket science pricing a car. Look for some ads of Priuses, and price yours based on comparison to others. As for your options: HOV stickers are probably the only valuable option, probably $2,000-$4,000.

No one gives sXXt about your leather stearing wheel cover, tires with 27K miles or shark fin. With regard to new paint, if that's a result of a wreck then the cars value will be less. If it's custom paint then that will also likely de-value the car because most people will want a stock paint job. The Prius is a highly sought after car, just do your comparison and price a little on the high side. If the phone doesn't ring, then you probably need to lower it.

Why the new paint and reason for Non-Op registration, when someone runs a Carfax on it the lapse of registration will be seen. This would make a majority of the buyers keep looking for another one. You should expect a hit on the value unless you can justify the reason. With your current description I'd value it about the same as the ones with Salvaged Titles.

 

I think she's addressed the repaint a couple of posts ahead of this. The non-op....well she's up north and the car is down south. So that's an acceptable reason.

The only other thing, and this is just me because I've had experience in this.....a repaint has to be really good to hold up in the long term. I think the difference is the way factory paint jobs are cured. Though my wife had her old MBZ repainted (a $13k bare shell job) and they did it really nice, and it's held up really well. On the other hand, I had the front end of my Ford repaired after a minor fender-bender. It got no (or very little) oven cure time, and it looks like crap now with all the subsequent stone chips.

All that discussion about pricing and now you've decided to not sell the Prius. Honestly RUFARO...were you really looking to sell your car, or just looking for a way to get free advertising for your Di-Cast Toy business?
