Reverse Beeper on 2006 (more help needed)

I have an 06 Prius. Here are the instructions I followed. They worked for me the first time I tried them. Hope they work for you:

1. Press the power switch.
2. Set the trip odometer switch to "odometer" (if it's already in that mode, one must go out of odometer mode and back into it).
3. Press the power switch to turn the car off.
4. With foot on brake, hit power switch again and wait till the ready light illuminates.
5. Within six seconds, press and hold the trip odometer switch for 10 seconds or more.
6. While still holding that switch, after 10 seconds, shift from park to reverse, and then back to park. Now release the switch.
7. The trip odometer display will show "b on" instead of miles.
8. Toggle the trip odometer switch till the display shows "b off".
9. Turn power off.

Two comments... In your instructions:

1. Press the power switch.
2 - Toggle the ODO button through the ODO/TripA/TripB options, then back to (and hold at) ODO
3 - Turn POWER-OFF

Don't get tied up about 'holding' anything on the first few steps. All you are doing is turning the car on, and cycling the odometer display to ODO (ie. not set to TripA/B), and turning off the car, that's it. You don't 'hold' anything until after you've started the car the second time.

And in priusnum's directions - the step that most commonly trips folks up is:

6. While still holding that switch, after 10 seconds, shift from park to reverse, and then back to park. Now release the switch.

What you want to do is
*) Foot must still be on break (Or the shift into reverse will fail)
*) Move the shifter to reverse.
*) Let go of the shifter (It settles)
*) Press the park button
*) Now release the ODO button

Worked like a charm in my 07 Touring.

 

Perhaps you're not holding the ODO button long enough before going into reverse?

Official instructions from repair manual:

BUZZER CANCEL SETTING
(h) Check that the ODO display is on, and turn the power switch off and then on. If other display is on,
change it to the ODO display.
(i) Within 6 seconds, push and hold the ODO/TRIP switch for 10 seconds or more.
(j) Following the table below, set the buzzer cancel setting.
A/T reverse buzzer: A/T R position -> P position
HINT:
The ODO/TRIP display changes from â€b–on†to â€b–offâ€, entering the cancel mode.
(k) During the cancel mode, each time the ODO/TRIP switch is pushed, the setting is switched between*1
b–on and *2 b–off.
HINT:
*1 b–on: Cancel is invalid
*2 b–off: Cancel is valid
(l) After the setting, the mode will be canceled by either not operating the switch for 10 seconds or more,
or turning the power switch from on to off.
HINT:
The setting can be reset when reconnecting the battery connector or removing/installing the meter connector (Buzzer on).

 

Keep trying Geronimo! It took me several days and several times to get it work on my 06. Make sure you follow the instructions to the letter and make sure your timing is correct. This will work even in an 06!

 

It worked for me on my 3rd try and I have an 06.
(Remember what happens when the machines win - skynet and the terminator). :lol:

 

<_< "Third Try" must be the trick... Took me 3 tries to get it to work on my 2007 Touring. Took me 6 tries to get the "all doors open when you touch the drivers handle" to work... at least, I think it's working now.

Seems all these "Easter egg" modifications are tricky.

 

I was lucky enough to get the backup beeper disabled on the first try -- then had to do it again when I installed my DICE for the iPod.

However I have done the seatbelt routine about 6 times -- until I was tipped off that the sensor has to be tripped in order for it to work. :blink:

Worked the first time on my 07

 

I'll add my two cents. My 2006 Prius absolutely would not work with any of the instructions I could find. (And I tried many.) However, I fiddled around until I found out what would work. The problem I had was partly the "within 6 seconds" and the "after 10 seconds" requirements. So here's what I did (recalled from memory, so hopefully I remembered everything I did) to get mine to work:

1 - Turn the car on, make sure you're on ODO and not trip by pressing the ODO button as many times as necessary, and then turn the car off.

2 - Hold down the ODO button.

3 - Hold down the brake pedal.

4 - Turn on the car. Your ODO reading should be just dashes ticking down.

5 - Take a deep breath and pray, and then BEFORE ten seconds has passed, shift to R and back to P.

6 - It's okay to let off the brake now that you're back in park, but if you really don't want to risk it you can wait until after you've turned off the car. :lol:

7 - When you see the ODO readout on the dash stop ticking away dashes (Is that an engineer's sick joke?) and go to something like b-on then you can finally let go of the ODO.

8 - Now you can press the ODO button to switch between b-on and b-off. Yipee!

9 - Once you're happy with your new setting, turn off the car.

10 - Breathe a sigh of relief and thank the gods.

 

Thanks are in order to you all! I just bought an '08 and the beeper was making me nutzo...I was able to disable on the second try...what a relief....ahhhh blissful silence...

Tinted windows first,does this count as my 2nd mod?
Mud flaps,fog lights next.

 

Thanks to the OP for this instruction. Got it on the first try. That beep is really annoying.

 

WOW - I just found this forum tonight. I have a Red 2007 that I have been driving for a year. When someone asks me about the car I tell them how much I love it, but hate that backup beeping. I didn't know it could be turned off. When I read the list of instructions I thought you people were joking. It seems so random. But, I went out and tried it and YAAA it worked. That backup beep is silent! Thank you!

 

I've been meaning to do this for over a year on our 2007. Like many others, got it on the 2nd try. Ahhhh, silence, golden silence.
