I'm in total awe and completely in love with my Chili Pepper aka Prius lol. I've been driving the Chili Pepper for 3 weeks, I got between 43-47 mpg which isn't too bad. However after all the hype about hypermiling, I thought I would try it tonight after filling up the car. The gas station is 5 miles from my house, if not for the jerk-off monster car tailgating me, I could've done better I'm proud to show off the 65.7mpg in 5 miles!!! woooohooooo... the real question is, can I keep this up???!
Wow, that's amazing! I've tried to find a few threads about hyper-mileing, but nothing that explained in detail exactly how to do it. If you could give me a good description of how to do it, my wallet would be forever grateful to you.
Next time speed away from the monster tailgater. It's worth it because it'll really piss 'im off :_> Actually it's not that hard to get whacking good MPGs right after a fillup. The car is usually all warmed up before the fillup and running at maximum efficiency.
Google Hypermiling or hypermiler. There are several techniques, some that are not too safe. You can average like 75 mpg if you are crazy efficient like these guys. slow acceleration, driving the speed limit or less, slow deceleration, using momentum into turns, choose flat roads instead of hills. It is a science behind it.
These are the steps I took to achieve that, not sure if they are correct or now, being a newbie and all... lol 1. Slow down and stay under the speed limit 2. When I see a stop light ahead, take my foot off the gas immediately and glide the rest of the way to the stop light 3. Press the gas pedal gently 4. Watch the FE on the monitor and try to go stealth as much as I can That's all I do
hehee he did look pissed off. I'm at a seminar the last 2 days, I have to travel about 45 miles each way, the highway has been horrible!!! Crawling most of the way, I think that has helped with my numbers. I've dropped from the 65.7 mpg to 57.1 today... still better than what I was driving b4
Congrats! I've also been trying to hypermile and enjoy it a lot. I also think that Chili Pepper is a beautiful color!
