Howdy folks! Hubby and I just bought our first Prius last week. We were looking for something that was similar to our old little 4 door Geo Metro, but with better suspension, as that little go-cart - awesome gas mileage that it had - just killed my neck & back (due to a childhood injury that just about obliterated my spine.) But even so, it was a blast to drive, and too much fun to pop the hood and watch people's mouths drop when they set their eyes upon that little Singer sewing machine of an engine! But wow, the Prius is amazing! The seats are so comfortable, my back hasn't complained yet. And the suspension is very kind to my neck. I can't believe I'm in a sub-compact, the interior feels like a mid-size car. I was immediately intrigued by the engineering marvel that it is, and on the first night of ownership hit Google to learn even more about it. So that's how I happened upon this awesome site. I'd no idea that this car had such a loyal fan base. Truly amazing. And I have learned soo much already, but I know there's a lot more to understand.. (still trying to figure out exactly what is meant by pulse and glide, hyper-mileing and such) but it will all come in due time. But already, I was esp. thrilled to stumble upon a fix for that annoying backup beeper! So just wanted to introduce myself and express my appreciation for the site here. It's helped turn me into a Prius Groupie overnight.
:welcome: Welcome to PriusChat, Ailu! The more you learn, the more amazing the Prius becomes. Have fun!
Welcome!!! This site is addicting but so so helpful!! I have a question for you, I see you owned a Geo Metro in the past. How long did you have it, and did you have any major problems with it? My father owned one for 11 years, bought it in 1990 the year after they came out and he drove that car into the ground, for 11years no major problems and got excellent gas mileage. It was an awesome little car. So I was just wondering how yours held up? there was a post on here about the Metro coming back now and people buying them, fixing them up and selling them for huge markups from the original selling price, and a lot of people commented on how truly awful the cars were, but I beg to differ as we had no problems with the one my father had.
Hi and welcome! You are going to find that most of us love our Prii more than what would seem "normal". You'll even be having people ask you your car's name and if it is a boy or girl. Oh yeah, and what color s(he) is. You'll fit right in! Have fun and enjoy the ride! Prius Prime My car is super white and I call him Pri-Pri.
lane: Enjoy the "New" Ride - I smile every time I get in and drive somewhere. "Ha" even if I don't want to be going there.lane:
I know exactly what you mean. I haven't even picked up my new car yet(38 hours to go) and I'm already a PriusChat adict. I hope I Feel the same way after owning the car for a few years. Take care, John
Hi Genoz! It's a Chinese Crest, they are an odd-looking but very sweet & affectionate little dog. Thanks everyone for all your welcoming comments!
Woohoo, congrats on the new Prius! I'm still learning too (my car is just over a month old). So much great info here, and everyone is super friendly and helpful. My husband keeps threatening to lock me out of the forum though because I keep reading about new things I want to buy for my Prius (mud guards, stiffening plates and ScanGuage II's....oh my!). What colour did you get btw?
LOL, I know whatcha mean. I've spent a small fortune in the last week: side mouldings, hood deflector, all weather mats, cargo liner, vinyl tint film, and oh yes, the mud guards too! Hubby just loves this car so looks the other way in tacit consent. But I know I'm gonna cry when I go to pay the bills! Hmm, I'll have to look into the stiffening plates and Scan Gauge, what are they used for? I got the metallic grey, and you? "Prius groupie turned addict"
Ooh, how do you like the hood deflector? Did you do the side moldings yourself or have someone put them on? I do have 2 hours of driving a day and I was thinking that something to protect the front of my car from dings might be wise. Tinting and mudguards are high on my list too.... Hehe...check out the Prius Shop here and you'll see better descriptions on the ScanGuage and BT Tech stuff (stiffening plate etc) than I can give (I'm SO not a tech person hehe) . Don't know if I NEED them but from what everyone has posted the BT Tech products make a really big difference in how the car handles. I think the Stiffening plate in particular was mentioned as helping the car feel more solid on those windy days on the highway, or when big trucks pass you. I do like that Metallic Grey! Very classy My car is the Seaside Pearl btw Loving it more every day! Just got it back from the shop this week (someone crunched in my bumper) and I was worried how the mileage would be but woohoo....getting over 58 mpg the last 2 days! And it hasn't even been that warm out
I've had mine for a few years now and it still brings a smile when I get in. I still love to listen to the whine of the electric motor when tooling around a shopping mall parking lot. I enjoy it every bit as much as I didn when I first got it.
I've had my prius for almost 3 weeks and am loving every minute I step into it. Especially love the 49.3 mpg and it's rising weekly. I had no idea either what a fan base the prius had...but am enjoying everyone's input! Thank you priuschat!
The hood deflector and mudguards just shipped and haven't yet arrived, but as soon as we install them, I'll report back. The side moldings arrived yesterday, they appear to be of excellent quality. Hubby and I are going to attempt to install them ourselves this weekend. haha Wow, after reading the reviews, I'm really sold on that stiffening plate.. just gotta wait until we've completely talked ourselves into it, kinda hesitant to drop down that much money for a piece of metal. But totally seems worth it, really. Bummer on the bumper! Hopefully you were reimbursed by whoever crunched it. 58 mpg? That's amazing! We are on our 2nd tank right now and averaging about 46 mpg, but we live in the mountains, and it's uphill/downhill anywhere you go. Our first tank only got 43mpg, but we heard that mileage continues to rise as the car breaks in (or breaks in it's owners, for that matter- lol) so I'm waiting to see how it will do on it's next tank. The seaside Pearl is soo pretty! I was considering that color, but the dealer only had one, in a package 0, and we really wanted a package 2 or above. But my all time favorite color is the Silver Pine Mica - but they had none available, and none coming in. And hubby did not wait 2 months to order one. Hence the Metallic Grey. My husband was absolutely gaga about the color, but I didn't much like it, honestly. Ever since we came home with it, though, it's been making my hubby laugh with smugness, cause the first thing every single friend who sees our new car says is "Wow, I just LOVE the color!" So it's growin on me. lol
