my car says i have curtain and side air bags, i want to put seat covers and i read you cant on some seats because it interferes with the air bags,so i called the dealer and he said it wasnt a problem at all on my car ?? Mine is 2007 prius
as long as you specifically purchase seat covers designed for car seats that have airbags then you are fine. if you just buy any car seat cover, then you are screwed
So, are you saying the side airbags are actually mounted in the seats? I haven't actually looked at my seats (2008) so I can't comment directly. If they are not mounted in the actual seat I'm having trouble visualizing how a seat cover would actually interfere with the air bag. How do people who change out the seats deal with this? The side airbags (to protect torso) are mounted on the side of the seat. You'll see a tag on your seat side that says SRS or something like that. I think that tag is the approximate location of the side airbag cannister. Seat covers that accomodate side airbags have either a cut-out (hole), a flap or breakaway stitching that supposedly do not interfere with the airbag's deployment. People who change out their front seats either will not have side airbags or, if their new seats have side airbags they will have to successfully hook them up. The side curtain airbags (to protect head) are mounted on the lower edge of the roof.
