I'm having difficulty transferring my phone address book to Prius address book. It starts and indicates data is being transferred but it seems to hang. Either that, or it takes VERY VERY long time to transfer about 50 enteries. I have waited for as long as 40 minutes (my length of commute to work) and still didn't finish. Has anyone done this? Did it take a very long time?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(rz1 @ Oct 27 2007, 10:27 AM) </div> It took less than a minute with my Sprint Sanyo Katana.
I've had no luck with my Treo 650. It farts out with an error after transferring just a handful of entries.
Well, I tried again and paid more attention this time. The car dropped the BT connection and then was expecting the data (address book entries) to get pushed from the phone to car. After playing with the phone a bit and googling the topic, it seems that my Verizon Razr phone is crippled and does not allow address book transfers via BT. Has anyone transferred address book from Verizon Razr?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(rz1 @ Oct 28 2007, 02:46 PM) </div> Try this, it might work. For LG VX8300 (Verizon), you can send 10 name cards at a time, for example you have 82 names in your phone book you need to transfer 9 times. 1-Pairing then Set up the car bluetooth so your car bluetooth is transfering ( you can use your Prius user manual). 2-Menu -> Setting&Tools -> Bluetooth -> HighlightyourcarbluetoothName HANDS FREE ->options->Send Name Card -> Mark ten name at a time -> Done 3-Mark ten names again -> Done 4-Continue Step 3 till all names are tranfered.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Prius07Pkg4 @ Oct 28 2007, 05:57 PM) </div> Thanks, but the problem is that Razr is missing the key option of "Send Name Card". The only available option for BT connection is "Device Address"! I was wondering if anyone has applied a recent patch to Razr that is rumored to be available now and may allow file transfer (and possibly address book transfer) for Razr.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(rz1 @ Oct 29 2007, 04:29 PM) </div> rz1, do you happen to have a laptop with Bluetooth? If you have a laptop you can use that to OBEX PUSH the contacts from a .vcf file. I bought a $5.00 Bluetooth USB dongle from eBay because my notebook didn't have Bluetooth built in. Worked like a charm! Using Windows click Start / Program Files / Accessories / Address Book and enter your contacts using short name using "New Contact" (I can't recall for sure but keep names under 8 or 9 characters max as more than that gets truncated in the Prius screen). Others have posted they simply used Outlook Express contacts already entered therein and exported via Bluetooth. I don't use Outlook Express and cannot therefore comment on the process. I only entered the "Nickname" field and one phone number (ignoring that there is a Phone, Fax, Mobile input fields, only used ONE of the three per record). Skip entering address and web address and all the other mumbo jumbo. Then after each record is created go File / Export / Business Card (vCard) and that creates the individual .vcf file that is sent to the Prius which is tricked into thinking it's getting it from your Motorola. There are many here who've posted helpful instructions in PriusChat, and many complained about only being able to do one record at a time. But I simply cut-and-pasted each record into ONE wordpad .txt file, then renamed it, saved it as Prius.vcf and in my case sent 35+ records in about 4 seconds perfectly. The text file you make from the multiple individual .vcf's to save as Prius.vcf looks like this: BEGIN:VCARD VERSION:2.1 N:;411 FN:411 NICKNAME:411 TEL;HOME;VOICE:8003733411 REV:20071030T172106Z END:VCARD BEGIN:VCARD VERSION:2.1 N:411;Google FN:Google 411 NICKNAME:Google 411 TEL;HOME;VOICE:8004664411 REV:20071030T172446Z END:VCARD BEGIN:VCARD VERSION:2.1 N:;Voicemail FN:Voicemail NICKNAME:Voicemail TEL;CELL;VOICE:*86 REV:20071030T172714Z END:VCARD And so on.......... I use a Verizon Motorola that has been crippled by VZW as well. So this trick was a great find. Your notebook will most likely see your Motorola, and will find the "INTEGRATED HANDSFREE", which is the Prius, within the "Blutooth Devices" window. Double click that icon (INTEGRATED HANDSFREE not Motorola), click on the raido button at the bottom allowing you to click browse, find Prius.vcf , select it. While the Prius is paired up with your Motorola and you've navigated the Prius menu to Phonebook 1 or 2 and have selected the menu item putting it in a state that is waiting for it to receive your Phonebook, only THEN hit send on the notebook. It will ask for the Prius paring code which is 1212 by default. You'll see the sending window with progress bar zipping quickly across and voila'! NOTE THAT the notebook will provide a confirmation message you successfully sent only ONE record (the first one in your Prius.vcf file list) but don't be fooled. Upon checking with the Prius you'll find it indeed really received ALL records. Do a search on this forum for more info if this didn't cover it adequately. Best of luck! Let me know if this helped. BTW I did this on my 2004, my 2007 doesn't have Bluetooth.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(07+04 Prius Owner @ Oct 31 2007, 03:28 PM) </div> Thanks very much for your detailed instructions. I will try it as soon as I find the time and will let you know.
I can't get to the verizon razr to send to BT phone book either. I just enter the numbers manually or dial from the phone book in the phone. It is interesting though that I have a garmin C550 with BT and it picks up the phone book and then keeps it in sync everytime the GPS is powered on and reconnected to the phone. Very nice BT on the GPS - I wonder why Toyota couldn't get it to work like the GPS (which was $350 about 1.5 years ago).
Thanks for this post!! I just got my Prius yesterday and tried the transfer from my Razr and it took forever and still nothing. I was going to try it again. Glad I read this 1st. I will just enter them manually or have my kids do it. Thanks
Wow, I wish I would have known this before I manually transferred my phone book on my Verizon VX8300! Hopefully, it will work going forward though. ThanX for the info!! :humble: ... Brad
hi! i just got an 09, does anyone know how to make the transfer from an iPhone (original)? i'm having the same problem, transfer taking way too long (over 1 hr already), even though I do have over 600 entries. thanks!
You will not be able to transfer from the iPhone directly as it does not support the PUSH bluetooth protocol (blame Apple). One you have is synced with a laptop, however, you can use the procedure described here (and elsewhere on the forum) to do the transfer
I have a Prius 2010 with Navi...and a Verizon Samsung Droid Charge which I had previously successfully transferred the contact list to the Prius. I just had to "reset" my phone, and and the Prius contact list disappeared, but I am now unable to transfer the contact list...it starts, then the bluetooth connection stops and the "transfer fails"
