Hi all, I'm interested in buying a hybrid and was just wondering if anyone has experience with carseats in theirs. I have a 3 year old and another due next month, so curious how two will fit and how easy/difficult it will be getting the kids in and out. I'm currently driving an 07 Camry and didn't go with the hybrid version because I thought I needed the extra trunk space for the pack and play, stroller and other assorted baby gear. Kicking myself for it now as I recently took a new job with a 100 mile round trip commute. Plenty of room in the back seat of the Camry, might look into the hybrid now but would like the extra mileage of the Prius if I can fit the two seats in comfortably. Thanks.
I have two car seats in my Prius, well 1 booster seat and 1 car seat. I came from an Explorer so it naturally harder to buckle them in but it's not horrible by any means.
You'll get two seats in just fine. And I'd bet the hatchback of the Prius would be easier to get stuff in than the trunk of the Camry. Maybe take a trip to the dealer with the kids and the stuff and see if you can get everything in? If you have one of those ginormous SUV strollers it might require being creative.
Two car seats, no problem! If you do some searching on priuschat.com, you will find that someone posted a photo showing THREE car seats installed in the back seat!
Thanks for all the replies, searching for "car seat" in the forums was a but much. Obviously thrilled at the mileage but concerned about room. Took my daughter, carseat, & stroller when I was shopping for the Camry. Never again!
I have two seats installed in our Prius at all times for our 5 and 2 year olds. A Britax Boulevard and a Recaro Young Sport. They fit well. I am concerned somewhat with the side airbag deployment, but don't feel the need to test it. For reasons I don't understand, to me the Camry seemed more cramped in the back seat than the Prius. Either way Prius or Camry, it's still a dodge em' game with the giant SUVs and Mini Vans.
When I test drove the prius with my wife, two year old son and sales person, we transfered the car seat to the prius to get a real-world test. Now that he is getting older 2 1/2 I you have to make sure you don't hit his head getting him into the car seat.:car:
