I bought my pkg#2 Prius in January 2008. Since I got it, a good friend has been asking me all kinds of questions about it. She just called me and told me she went to get one (trade in a Suburban) and there is a 6-8 month wait in Southeastern CT/RI area. Also, all dealers now tack on $3000-$4000 to MSRP. She bought a 2007 pkg#2 REPOSSESSION with 29,000 miles for $27000 !!! Ouch. Boy am I glad I got mine when I did. I love my Prius.
Im sorry so say this, why she buy a used prius with 29000 and more expensive than a 2008 package 5 prius? she may just buy a Yaris and sell it after 6 months, the price different may still be less than paying $27000 for a 07 prius.
I just use cars.com to check used Prius in NY area, even a 2008 prius sell 25000 with 7000 miles on it. 27000 for a 07? that is too much
sign of the times I guess. The start of discomfort over the price of gas and cars and suv's that throw it away. The Prii is the number one car in sales now I hear. We are going to see them all over like a wave of angels soon! That is if one can get one!
Sometimes we just can't blame the car dealers as the root of all evils, because there're many impulsive buyers who just paid whatever it takes to get the cars they want....now. It's always not a well-thought decision to pay 4-figure OVER MSRP just to save some bucks off in each fill-up.... There're couple of more Hybrid-equivalent cars out there to choose if gas saving is the objective. If Prius is out of reach, why not Civic Hybrid or Altima hybrid?
I think this is the first (new) car I've bought that hasn't instantly depreciated after I've driven it off the lot.
That was silly. She should have waited a couple months and bought a 2009, or the used one for a lot less money. When someone has to buy something *right now* they usually screw themselves on the price. [Uhh, pretty much as Qlara wrote above... my bad.]
there is a post stating the same. Prius incentives are down to an average of $137 per vehicle... iow... no incentive at all. and yes we will soon see dealer markups OVER MSRP if that has not already happened. there is a waiting list in my area, and has been for months and its probably getting worse.
