:bump: This thread's been dormant since June of last year. With the election season in full swing & a host of new blood, it seemed appropriate to give it a lift. Maybe one of our excellent moderators (who do a fantastic job here day in & day out) can move it over to FHOPol, where it probably belongs. Not that I'm looking to give eagle more work updating the chart .... FYI ... The test is now here" The Political Compass - Test
Economic Left/Right: -4.25 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.82 Lower left quadrant, closer to the middle than the left
Wow...really weird. I've been dormant on this board since June of last year, too. Imagine my surprise when one of the last posts I made was front and center on "new posts." Psychic phenomona? I don't know, but it's weird... How are ya'll doin'?
New to the boards, brand new owner of a Prius - still awaiting it's arrival! Politics and Prius do seem to go together... Us? We love the slogan: Support our troupes - buy a Prius We read the NY Times online, The International Herald Tribune online, (who needs paper?) proud supporters of OPB and NPR, and The Week. We're democrats... liberal, feminists (yes, men too can care about gender equality) environmentally we do what we can, and we aren't at all happy that Nader is once again, thinking it's best for the country to run for office. We unplugged the TV the eve of Bush's first inauguration, and vowed to keep it off until he is out of office. Thus, we are spared the shame. You asked... and there you have it.
I answered as truthfully as I could. Some questions were VERY hard for me. I am afraid to post my results..................... I guess it is more a case of some of my answers are hard for me to accept.
Economic Left/Right: -2.38 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.77 It's what I figured it would be. Now, I need to show this to some of my preacher friends. See how they want to deal with me now!
The answers on that test are tough. And they're not necessarily going to provide as accurate a picture as they might. It's all in good fun & we won't hold it against you. Welcome back livelychick!! We're doing well, but the place hasn't been the same without you. How are you?
I didn't think the questions were hard, but some of them were not a clear agree/disagree choice for me. Like this one: "The freer the market, the freer the people." In theory, I could agree with that, but reality dictates that it isn't always that simple. That one that says, "The enemy of my enemy is my friend," is just weird. Sometimes that's true, sometimes it isn't. For example, Sadam Hussein was our enemy, but his biggest enemy was Iran. By that logic, wouldn't that make Iran our "friend?" Hardly. However, Britain is our friend and their enemy was also Sadam. I had to disagree with it. I think that was a dumb question - don't know how it could effectively denote political views. I guess a conservative's first instinct might be to say YES YES YES on that one because it reaks of "your either with me or against me," but anyone who really tries to apply it ends up trying to choose a definite agree or disagree answer when it doesn't apply. There should be a "Sometimes" option. It's it's not a fit-all, black and white statement.
Interesting, harmless fun, just confirmed what I knew about myself: My boss would be on the exact opposite side, he's a full blown Bush supporter...
I think I remember this from the last time. I answered most of the questions honestly, a few tongue-in-cheek, and came out left of Ghandi.
This was my graph. The Political Compass Economic Left/Right: 0.38 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.92
