Well we are finally getting serious about getting a Prius, we have been looking at used as well as new. Not having a whole lot of luck with used I called a local dealer today and was quoted above MRSP for a Driftwood base pkg 5. I told the salesman thanks but no thanks, I put a request in with Edmunds and see what turns up We will see (man I hate buying cars)
i am having the same problems. i should have jumped on the chance to get one last month while dealerships had TONS. now they are disappearing RAPIDLY.
I would not really agree with this, it all depends on where you live in the US and what the demand is in certain areas. When you live in an area where the demand is high and the cars are flying off the lots before they even get off the trucks, there would be little hope that a dealer would still negotiate $1,000 off MSRP price when they have a list of people waiting to buy a Prius and willing to pay over MSRP just to get that car.. That is just wishful thinking that you can still get $1,000 off MSRP
yep, i went thru this last year and the demand wasnt as high...waited til the 08's came out to get what i wanted and the best price...waiting for the 09's would be a good thought cause a lot of buyers will want the next generation and will wait for them
Theoretically by shopping on the Internet you should be able to take advantage of the lower priced geographical areas. Good luck!
I am in West Texas, and this is what worked for me. Start clicking on all the free price quote that are all over the internet. Filter out the dealers who only want to deal with MSRP but don't burn any bridges. Only deal with internet sales managers who can give you a price below MSRP. My best results were with the internet sales managers in smaller towns. I actually found one a who had an loaded prius on his allocation, and he was selling it at 500 over invoice. Two other dealers only wanted to go 500 below MSRP. I didn't even rule out selecting dealers or cities which were serviced by Southwest Airlines, but I never had to resort to this tactic. Don't listen to any lies about getting the car serviced. You can buy the car anywhere and have it serviced at any authorized Toyota service department. Dealers make money when you give them you business even if it is in the service department. Don't settle for less than what you want. The internet sales manager can get you exactly the color you want and the package that you want if you are willing to wait a couple weeks. Good luck in you search, and have a good day!
I live in San Diego and checked yesterday with two dealerships. Each said they had none in stock, and that there is a waiting list. One dealer is taking deposits. I was told by the salesman who sold me my car in early March that Toyota has reduced the allocation for all USA dealerships and has increased the allocation to Europe, due to the fact that Toyota can sell the Prius in Europe at much higher prices than in the USA.
Yep, you'll have a hard time finding much under MSRP these days. We went in two weeks ago, they had 16 listed online but none actually on the lot. They said the waiting list had started, right now they were over invoice and anticipated being at MSRP by the time the next batch came in. Maybe in some areas of the US demand isn't as high - but not in Phoenix.
I remembered a dealer told me he would not lower more than 400 from MSRP because oil price was going up everyday, that was mid april. He even said he wouldnt give "discount" if demand went up. At that time, i thought he just BS. Right now, shortage and high demand, lower US dollars, raising gas price; I believe dealer wont sell any less from MSRP. Why should they if you have people line up to buy
Wow - I had heard that they were becoming harder to find, but I didn't think they were back at MSRP and above. I just took possession of my new Magnetic Gray pkg#4 two weeks ago - got it at invoice because I pre-ordered it before I came out to Colorado (and went through Costco again - they rock!).
Boy - we were lucker than I thought. 9 day ago we picked up a new Prius in the Boston area with Package 6 for $1385 under MSRP. I don't think we could do as well now.
here in tulsa at the dealership i work at we have a 5 month list for grade 6 units. there is no new prius for sale here in the state from what i have heard from customers. we aer strugling to get used ones in for a good price. the last 2 used we have sold we sold at sticker and still only made about 300 on each thats total gross. the carollas are just as hard to move on. it getting bad even for us salesman. and its true the us allocation got cut.
Hey, midnight, welcome to PriusChat. When you say "sold at sticker," do you mean at the price shown on the window sticker? Is the window sticker price "MSRP?" Who sets that price; Toyota USA, the port facility where the car arives, the regional office?
Well I think we got a decent deal, we are on a waiting list could be as long as 4 months. Got a Driftwood package #5 base Prius coming for 26,600. p.s I highly, highly recommend New Holland Toyota in New Holland.Pa Very good to work with
I wonder if that's due to the low US dollar ? Here in Canada, Toyota is making a lot more on Prius's and I understand the supply is still good. That said, I've been waiting 11 days for the train to arrive and have been told to wait another week...
window sticker. the port puts that price on the car. it includes all options installed at time of entry. we got 2 used ones in yesterday, every salesperson was calling every one they know. its stupid.
