I had a problem trying to pump gas due to "constantly clicking off' as well. I tried some of the various remedies as slower rate, not inserting the nozzle completely to allow venting but the one method that has been working for me is to hold the nozzle firmly in place and pump as full speed. The pump hasn't been shutting off prematurely nor have I experience any burps.
30 months and 75000 miles later I've never had any issues with filling except somewhat erratic amounts. I've never had any barfing issues at all. I always set it to the one of the two auto-shutoffs then pull it out when it shuts off. I never round up or top off.
why do we put up with barfing fuel tanks? Or, should I say, some of us? If some people have no issues with this at all, and some do, then what is the problem? How systemic is this? Has anyone with this problem gone through the "channels" to file complaints with the Toyota Customer Experience Center? Have you gotten anywhere if you have? I haven't.
I have the same issue with my 2007 Prius. This is a dangerous issue with the car and I think Toyota should rectify it before someone gets badly burned or worse. Maybe a class action or something like that would work. Product liability laws are being avoided here I think.
