My wife wants a prius now that she's been driving mine. Her car is getting her 16-18 miles per gallon. Called the dealer where I got mine back mid march 08 and said get on the list. There are 22 ahead of me. They get an allotment every 2 weeks which usually has about 4 prius's on it. Expectations for buyers and this dealership are between 1 - 3 months with a 500 refundable deposit. Should I keep looking at other dealerships or is this what we can expect everywhere ? BTW- he also said his regional manager said no significant changes until fall of '09. I forgot to ask him if there'll be at least minor style changes to this fall's model.
do not know about PA. Here in Central FL they are on all the lots by the dozens. all the pkg's and colors. Come on a vacation?
I bought mine about a month ago and just talked to the dealer and he said my timing was impeccable. They are now completely out of Prius's and are now selling at no discounts apparently. I was waiting to hear if any others were seeing this trend as well.
Your best bet would be to take a road trip to a large city. Seems that they usually get more Prii than small cities.
Not all of the dealers around here have Priuses in the dozens. Our local dealer is completely out and has said there's a 3-week backlog. This is in contrast to having 4 on the lot last month...
I got mine in mid March and there were 15 on the lot. I just checked and there are now 4. They are definitely going fast.
my dealer gets up to 10 a month and has a 40 person waiting list. People are offering OVER sticker to get one first. THank goodness I got mine in Feb!
That happened to us too. We went in for Prius #2 and they had sold out, with a 4-6 week waiting period.
Hey, don't you know that hoarding Prii is verboten? But seriously, when I bought mine at a local/small-town dealership in December, there were 10-12 on the lot, so plenty from which to choose. When I went in during January for my first servicing there were around 20 of them, an even better selection. A week ago there were two. Now there are none, and when they get them they sell immediately for MSRP + dealer prep.
When I bought mine in February the dealer (Toyota of Orlando) had a few sitting on the lot. They sold within a couple days but at least they had some. I checked last week out of curiosity when I went in to get some oil filters. Now they are preselling 2 weeks out.
Try going to Toyota Cars, Trucks, SUVs & Accessories and select Shopping Tools then Build Your Own. Enter your Zip Code and follow a few prompts. I just went through the exorcise and it says there are 25,040 vehicles available in the Southeast region. If you chase down a few leads you can find the inventory of each dealer. I don't know how current it is but it should be a place to start looking. Follow up with a few phone calls to double check the web site. I bought mine on April 8th. He had over a dozen in stock. Three with the #2 which was what I wanted. That was Ed Morse in Delray Beach, FL. I would guess you are going to pay MSRP unless you get very lucky. The only thing you can bargain on is the trade in. Good Luck, Bob
They are flying off the lots here in the Chicago suburbs, I bought my Driftwood Pearl package 2 on April 19th, on that day, they had 21 in stock, 11 days later they were sold out!!!!! I am soooo glad I bought mine when I did and sooo glad I unloaded my SUV before it was worthless on the market.
Here in socal, a number of dealerships are completely out of stock. When I bought mine last month, there were 20 on the lot. Glad I got mine then under invoice. You can't get it under msrp now and have to wait 3 weeks...
Bought mine from St. Louis and had it trucked to Florida. Same money! Dealer fees in Fla $700, Dealer fee in Mo $99, Auto Transport $600. Got exactly what I wanted while some dealers were trying to rip me off over MSRP or add ons I didn't want or need. Shop around
Similar story here in upstate NY. I bought my Package 2 during the first week in April, got $1,000 off sticker and an unbelieveable deal on my SUV (4Runner) tradein. Could never pull off either end of the deal today much less both. The supply here is limited. They sell as fast as they are received.
Looking at one for hubby and dealers are telling us that a few weeks ago they would have 5-8 on the lots at a time and now they are selling as fast as they come in. Since we're not in a hurry we can wait for our color choice but they said it could take from 30-90 days! I guess $4 gas is finally getting through to people.
