because i am from the EU
and need to be build-in the us into my prius....
but really good price. is this for real? a few 1000 under price?

will there be a DIY system? ( so i can place it into the prius in the EU ) maybe 1500 cheaper?

maybe we need to work together with more prius forums
to make 1 big prius chatters buy
the bigger the number the more change that hymotion wil be interested

I organized a group buy for the Bugaboo Cameleon stroller when it first appeared in Europes. The UPS guy thought I was going into the stroller bidness.

Other than wishing whomever spearheads this thing Good Luck, if it were me, I'd just give them a call. See if they bite.

Don't forget to adjust your final tally down by 20% due to what I call the--My wife/husband/significant other said I can't spend that much money--factor. This gambit will be played well after you have placed the order, naturally.

Yes - I am on the reservation list already, but would be happy to get in on a group buy here. I actually reserved my Hymotion package before I got a Prius. Just bought an 08 package 6 yesterday. I had been one of the early Tesla Roadster reservation holders, but after my wife had our daughter during the 2 year wait since I put my Tesla reservation in, it no longer makes sense to have a 2 seater. I really want a plug-in car and the Hymotion Prius package looks to be the best option right now.

p.s. this is my first post so hello to you all.

This may be a stupid question...but this will cancel my warranty, right?

This is from the Hymotion FAQ

This probably goes without saying, but if Google foots the bill for the Hymotion module I'd wire my house to give me a power outlet for the car.

What are we up too ... maybe 20 yes's ? come ON people ... I'm thinking we'll only have 20% that'd actually follow thru if we CAN get this discount, so if we did get 200 yes's, that'd represent 40-50 actuals. sigh ... I'm exasperated & surprised

Sorry, but my stimulas check left off a 0 at only $600. so, for now it IS cost. I could care less about "payback", but up front cost IS a concern. Now, if anyone wants to contribute to my plug-in fund just PayPal to...

My same issue with solar right now. Up front, it'll take a loan to get things installed. I am in the saving/waiting mode right now if I choose to not borrow in order to do the right thing.

I am sooo jealous of those able to do this NOW. Keep us all posted on performance/operation.

Because I am bored in addition to being boring, I exchanged a couple of e-mails with Hymotion.

    Per them:

We are not offering a bulk discount rate at this time. The technology is new and although we understand the commitment that the L5 price entails, we are the least expensive conversion modules of this caliber on the market. The amount of engineering, research and safety and emissions testing really distinguishes us from other conversion kit offerings.

And I even offered to let them put Hymotion stickers all over your car.

I am a no at this time. The reasons are a combination of things:

    1) My cash flow is a little uncertain until after my surgery this June. And it would be stretching me very thin even w/o the surgery.
    2) I'm not yet ready to let go of the under deck storage space for my spare tire & tools (Note: the "Hybrids Plus" conversion doesn't have this issue...But the cost is extremely high too)
    3) I haven't researched how my car insurance would work. I'd want a rider on the insurance to cover replacement. (all it takes is an idiot driver with no insurance to turn a PHEV to a parts car)
    4) I'm still uncertain if this would allow me to run short trips (5-10 miles @ under 34 mph) in EV mode. W/o that benefit, the upgrade loses a lot of it's luster.

I applaud all of the TRUE LEADERS in this forum who are able AND are willing to jump in early on this. I will get there too, eventually. So look for me in your rear-view mirror!

Can I change my reply to a "yes, if...". I've done a bit of research into the costs of the power from the grid and their website does say it needs only regular 110, and not a 220 dedicated circuit or something, so that's easier and cheaper to install.

I would invest in this IF
    1. It will run all-electric via Hymotion battery for the *first* 30-40 miles and not need to try to warm the cat or something. Their website implies this but never says it outright that I found. My driving consist of many short 3-5 mile spurts where the engine is shutdown in-between for 1-2 hrs.
    --and--
    2. We can really get this pricing, or somewhere in the neighborhood, say up to $7500. I would consider allowing a normal sized bumper sticker or something like that as "advertisement" for them (Portland is chock-full-o' Prii, so it'd be a good deal for them... there are 5 on my block in inner SE PDX).

I called my insurance man and his response is shown below...

"Here is the response I received from the Erie Underwriter that handles your
case. He states that there is no additional charge to upgrade/convert to
    alternate power.

Every Ohio issued auto policy settles claims on a vehicles on an ACV Basis-
Actual Cash Value , unless the vehicle is an antique.

So what the underwriter is stating that the Improvements made to the car
@10,000 would be added to the car's value before the claims department would
begin the settlement process using ACV.

So if you decide to perform the conversion, please maintain the paperwork on
the upgrade keeping it with your valuable papers so you can have proof of
the upgrade since your original VIN # on the car does not support/reflect
the Upgrade. The VIN number only shows the Factory issue."

I do have an EV switch, so that's doable.

Thanks for the link to the tech discussion... most of my miles are on 25-35 MPH stretches in the city with frequent starts and stops--and I wouldn't mind driving 34 if that's what's needed. I suppose I'd have to figure out how to best use the EV switch. Currently, it's used mostly for the last 1/2 mile home through the neighborhood for the last trip of the day (where I know the ICE will have to run anyway in the morning to warm up, and in parking garages (in and out, 'cause it drives me nuts to hear the ICE running as I go downhill in circles at 5 MPH on my way out of a garage.)

Sounds like this may all be hypothetical for me anyway, since I'm not planning on paying full price at $10K, and Hymotion didn't sound too interested in our group-buy idea.

How could anyone say no to this price? Even at the current price it is a great deal because it actually has a payoff period in gas savings of a few years. Gas prices are only going to go higher by this summer, some are claiming $5 a gallon.

i am also a bit disappointed. i thought here more than anywhere, we would have learned the "estimated payback" argument was a crock invented by someone trying to push a $30,000 SUV since its a vehicle that imm, has an infinite payback time. iow, was not worth the money when i "bought" it and it would not even be worth what i paid for it even when new.

well that is where all of you are wrong. so very very wrong. the "costs" associated with owning a vehicle that uses gas is much more than we care to admit. the gas bill probably is less than 10% of the true cost.

the real cost in the devaluation of the dollar because so much of it is lost in imbalanced trade to one commodity that it affects the price of the food we buy, the price we can sell or borrow against our home, etc. its now starting to cost some people their jobs... sure oil is not 100% to blame, the causes are way too complicated, but its a major player

what about continued pollution? sure the Prius is a great (imm the best) first step towards reducing our carbon footprint... but its only ONE STEP... is that enough for you?... well its not enough for me.

I would like to see the math where you show a pay-off period of "a few years" even at $5/gallon. Don't forget to figure in the cost of electricity.
