Vais send you an installation manual that is very informative...it walks you through it step by step...and they have a customer service number you can call if you get stuck. How's that!?!?!

What wire needs to be cut to get video to work while in motion? Would you have any pictures of this. I would really appreciate knowing this as it would keep the kids occupied on those long trips.

Regarding the Navi Hack for a 2008 Prius.. What can be done to make the VAIS video to work while in motion?

Do you have a link to information about which wire needs to be cut? I assume it is the speed sensor wire?

I just installed a Vais SL2i on my 2008 w/NAV. It works great! I can use the steering wheel controls to skip songs. I also have a Lockpick ultimate installed. I was told by Vais that the SLV2i doesn't work with the Lockpick, hence the reason I went with SL2i. I installed a switch to interrupt the speed pulse wires to the MFD (2 total). If this isn't done, you can't see what song is playing if the vehicle is moving. Darn safety features!!!!! Installation was very easy, easy meaning you have to disassemble the dashboard to install. Easy plug and play design. I would highly recommend the Vais. Great customer support and they have firmware updates which you can perform if you you purchase there USB update interface.

The speed wires can be easily intercepted behind the vent panel that is just to the right of the MFD. That panel pops off without the need to remove anything else. And the big news is that BOTH speed wires are in here - the one that that I use above AND the one that goes to your NAV (if you have NAV). Snip both and use a DPDT switch to hook 'em up, and you're set. See attached picture (thanks to Darell at evnut.com for then info it worked great)

One recommendation, I would put a switch in so you have the option to turn it off. If you simply "cut" the wires, you will lose your 5 minute consumption bars. You will however retain the "green car" Icons and your MPG calculations. I guess the bars are updated off the speed pulse wires, strange but true.....

I just installed the USA spec ipod interface in an '08 with navigation and it is working well. You get playlists, artists, songs etc on the screen and the steering wheel controls work with it.

I ended up going with the Vais SL2I. Works ok, except for a couple of issues. Anyone have any insight? I have it installed in CD changer mode. I always leave the radio in this mode (ipod is always selected). I always turn the car on and off without turning off the radio. I have a 5th gen ipod video.

    1) Whenever I turn on the car, the ipod will start playing, as expected. But after a few seconds it will stop playing. I have to cycle power on the radio to get the ipod to restart playback. This happens every time I start the car.

    2) About every 5th time I turn on the car, the ipod will not playback. Cycling power on the radio doesn't help. The MFD shows "iPod error". To fix this, I have to go to the ipod itself and press the 'Menu' button.

I installed the Dice Electronics device and I love it. It charges and controls my iPod. I have my Sirius Radio plugged into the audio input and it works perfectly. The steering wheel controls for the iPod take some getting used to but work great. It will only navigate through your playlists so you just need to have those organized before you journey out.
    Love my Prius!!!!!!!!!!

Do either the DICE or Vais offerings still place limitations on number of playlists? Wasn't able to immediately locate that info on either website and it doesn't seem to be discussed much in more recent threads about the devices.

All the iPod integration options had limitations. You need to have a play list, but not more than 99 songs. Bookmarks don't work, ect. I rerouted the AUX port in the center console to my cleansweep AUX in and use the iPod directly. There is enough of a gap to hood the iPod to the console AUX port and put the iPod in one of the cup holders.

I guess that's what I'll end up doing Rep (same as I have been all along)

It strikes me as ridiculous that, when dealing with an mp3 player that can hold thousands of songs you're expected to keep your playlists under 100. It's not as if iPods are new technology in 2008

Vais SL2I has a limit of 6 playlists, and supposedly 99 songs per playlist, but I've created a playlist that contains my entire library (about 3000 songs) and it plays fine. By the way, updating my ipod firmware has fixed the problems I described above.
