I see many of you that have the leather Bra cover across the front of your Prius. Where do you buy these?, I looked on the accessories section on this forum and could not find it, I also did not see it on the dealership website. Where are these bought or ordered from and does 1 size fit all?? I saw a post, but cannot find it now, about someone asking about these and asking if the 2005 one would fit a new 2008 Prius as the dealer only had 2005 in stock and then there was some discussion as to whether or not they even have made Bra covers for 2008 models??
2004-2008 Prii have same hood. You can order a bra here Rocky Mountain Wheel or Toyota Parts and Accessories Store If you want to shop local and have a pep boys they can order one for you. You may also want to check out a hood deflector instead of the bra http://priuschat.com/forums/prius-modifications/45978-hood-deflector-silver-prius.html Toyota Parts and Accessories Store
True, but they're not identical at all bra attachment points. It's not an issue if the OP wants to cover only the hood like you. But there is a small air dam at the bottom of the front bumper beginning with the 2006 model that makes the Toyota bra (and possibly some aftermarket brands) a tough fit -- which is why you won't find it listed for 2006+ model years. I've seen reports of some making it fit, but not without lots of tugging and some (maybe lots of) cussing.
Thanks for this info Jim, do you have a larger photo of your car so I can see a bit better how the Bra cover looks on your car. Do you find it a pain in the A** to remove it everytime you want to wash your car???? I figure I will be washing my car every week and wonder if this cover will be a pain to remove and put back on every week in order to wash the car?
Thanks so much for all the info on where to order both of them, now I can't decide after you mentioned the part about having to remove the Bra cover everytime you want to wash the car..... Then again the deflector does not cover the bottom portion of the front that would also get smacked with lots of cruddy bug guts. I was looking to protect as much as possible. But if I have to remove that cover everytime I wash the car and it turns out to be a pain in the A** then I will not be happy.. Now, I'm pondering what to do????
Sure! If I felt it was necessary to take it off for every cleaning, I wouldn't have it. I'm too lazy. I remove it only for the car's semi-annual polish job, which coincidentally is coming this week.
Thanks Jim!!! I really like that, it looks so nice on the car, I think it will look just as good on my Driftwood Pearl color. Where did you buy yours?
I think folks here have said that Colgan is a better bra than LeBra. The OEM bra would be a real tight fit and might be too much to put up with. If I can find a decent fit I will get the bottom part and just use a hood deflector on the hood.
I got it at Metro, Toyota brand. If you decide to try to make the Toyota bra (or any other brand that doesn't list one for a 2008, for that matter) fit your car, you might read these threads first: http://priuschat.com/forums/prius-modifications/37826-prius-bra-2-5-years-later.html http://priuschat.com/forums/prius-main-forum/45497-my-bra-itched-scratched-my-prius.html They both describe experiences with how well the paint finish holds up beneath the bra -- the first successful, the second not. As I commented in #2, that is the first report I've seen where the finish has been scratched, ostensibly by the bra. I didn't want to comment further there until after I got mine off again, but something seems amiss. His/her picture shows what appears to be damage right at the lip of the wheel well, as though the bra was tightly wrapped around it and abraded it. But on mine, the bra doesn't wrap around it; the back edge of the bra comes only to the outer edge of the lip. The only thing that wraps around the lip anywhere close to the damage location are two plastic clips, but they are above and below the main area of damage. I wonder if, on that car, somehow one of the clips was allowed to repeatedly slide up and down the lip. I planned anyway to post my findings in one or both of those threads after I took mine off next time, which will be tonight or tomorrow. I'll post them here too for your convenience. Meanwhile, I wanted to make you aware of some of the usage reports so you could make an informed decision.
Thanks for this extra info,, I will be waiting to see what your report is after you take the Bra off and inspect....
This post serves as a serious complaint about car bras. All of us buy the Prius to save money and all, but we also buy it to help save our environment, no? So instead of real leather bras, we buy, install and proudly drive around with, what is reportedly, naugahyde bras. Don't you know how many Nauga's had to give their life just to cover the front end of your car??!!! I think it's an outrage! On the same note...... Those same bras are held onto our vehicles with glue and velcro. So how about the fate of the poor Belgian Velcro? This small friendly animal is being slaughtered indiscriminately for it's fur, which is then turned into velcro fasteners through a tanning process that involves the Velcros being sat upon by fat men wearing teflon pants in order to make the hairs hook. This has got to STOP!!
