I just got my Prius on Friday the 25th....I was nerveous that I would not like the car that much since I saw it as a down grade from my Tacoma Prerunner but with gas and all I had no choice. Let me be the first to say I am a moron. I am loving this car! I also love reading everyones posts especially about the MPG. I am at 320 and just dropped below a half of a tank!
Welcome. I'm loving the MPG's too. Before you get too proud and think of the 600 mile mark do some searching on PIP's and the guess gauge. I don't mean to bust a bubble, just keeping it real. Enjoy.
congrats on your new car!! btw, a moron is one who sees growing evidence (there is now ½ million Prius owners in the US) and still does nothing. what you did means you are not even close to being stupid.
Welcome! . . . from another post-moron thinker . . . our gen II '04 is 5 model years back, and we STILL feel the wow.
Hey, welcome to the Prius world! Regarding the half tank of petrol, refill it at 2 bars on the gauge, a very good habit to get in. Even filling at 2 bars my well run in Prius is getting 57mpg in city traffic or 900km per tank. It will take a while to get the best from your Prius economy wise but don't give up, it will come.
keep in mind that the gas gauge is NOT linear. The remaining bars will go FASTER then the first few. Do NOT run out of gas. if it starts flashing, IMMEDIATELY get gas. You don't have any "reserves" at this point.
Nope, definitely not a downgrade. I had the fairly recent good fortune to buy both a Prius (in December) and a Tacoma (in March) and am very happy with both, although comparing the two is pretty 'apples and oranges' to be sure. But the Prius is definitely my daily driver and the Tacoma more of a chore oriented and specialized vehicle.
Congrats on the new ride! No it is definitely not a downgrade. Not only is this car alot nicer than my pickup was, that mpg number just can't be beat.
After 8 hours of labor (test drove 6 different cars then seemed like there were more things to sign than closing on a house) my hubby brought me home in a 2010 Prius III, leaving my 2006 Sienna with 120000 miles and heart behind. He tried to talk me into a 2007 Prius but the test drive back then was too much with the displays and beeps and horrible visibility out the rear. I was so glad when we found our van at Carmax, with 20000 miles on it. I have spent the last few years as taxi mom with 5 teenagers, so the "Pixie-us" would not have worked out. Now that all are adults but one, hubby wanted to try again.
