I could have told you that - in fact I did . They were trying to marry two of the most expensive technologies: diesel with aftertreatment and hybrid electric together. Maybe with gas/diesel at $7 per gallon this would start making sense.
It would sure be nice if companies would actually think through and develop something before they announce to the world they are going to come out with a such and such car.
its going to be a petrol hybrid not diesel so stil A hybrid lets see when VW is going to tell us that also a petrol wil not manufactured
I think VAG are being cautious as they don't want to have their fingers burned again. Back in the mid 1990s they produced the plug-in diesel hybrid called the Audi Duo, but it was a commercial failure (too expensive and hardly anybody wanted one). To be fair though they were a bit ahead of their time and tried to make it work with lead acid batteries!
