Hello Everyone, I know that this topic has been played out ad nauseum. But I don't see many of our cars enough to know what to do here. I have an 05 that I have successfully followed the instructions on and I can defeat the navigation "gray out" condition whenever I like. However, my friend bought an 07 Touring. The display is different, and we have been unable to get the navigation "gray out" condition to change. Is there anything we are missing????
Only missing the fact that the procedure doesn't work in the '07 or '08 models (not sure about the '06)
SWEET!!! Could there be other hacks that WORK on an 07 that don't exist on an 05? Sheesh! I really wanna help my buddy hack something on his car. The back up beeper hack worked just fine. Toss me a bone people!!! PLEASE!!!!
By all indications, Toyota chose to eliminate any Nav defeat "easter egg" in the new systems. It's been sought for a couple of years to no avail. There are hardware solutions like from Coastaltech.
That sux. I actually placed an order for the EV Mod once with CoastalTech. They neither charged my credit card, initiated the order, or responded to any attempts to contact them. I felt that was a pretty flakey and unprofessional way to do business. So I canceled the order. No Problem. I have read others here with better reports about CoastalTech. I am very interested in the EV Mod. Wherever I could get one. If I could get consistant reports on CoastalTech, I might return and attempt to do business there.
Based on the complaints that I see about Coastal Tech, I assume it is a small Mom and Pop operation. They probably take breaks from their business and leave it "unmanned" for a few days at a time. I purchased the EV mod from them and it arrived quickly and had excellent installation instructions. The electrical connectors were very high quality. So, I think it is a hit or miss thing with them.
It is a small mom & pop operation...but they are on a continuous 'vacation' from communication with their customers. When they have a product in stock they are very good about shipping it out, when they don't have it in stock you can expect ZERO communication about that fact, when they expect to be in stock, anything. Dave and Kelly are great people when you meet them in person, but they are terrible business people.
can someone throw me a bone and direct me to the "nav defeat" instructions? I searched but must be missing some vital keyword b/c I cannot find it. thanks
Disabling Navigation Lock-Out When moving faster than a very slow speed, many of the navigation setting buttons are disabled (grayed-out). This sequence will override the lock-out until the car is powered off. • Press the "Menu" button (hardware button) • Press the "Voice" icon on the display • Press the upper left corner of the display, where the speaker icon is • Press the lower left corner • Press the upper left corner again • Press the lower left corner again • The screen should change to a diagnostic screen • Hold the "Override" button for several seconds until it changes to black Warning: do not play with things on this screen that you don't know about!
