Scenario: 2004 Prius in garage and unlocked; both fobs inside house. The alarm, which we never set, started honking the horns. I stopped it by using the red button on the fob. About 30 - 60 minutes later it happened again, and I again used the fob to stop it. I've gone through the Owners Manual and the Service Manual, but couldn't find anything like this problem. What might be the cause? Could the fob be sending out a spurious "panic" signal?
Any chance the 12 volt battery is starting to go bad? I have read that strange things begin to happen when it starts to go. Just a thought until someone else chimes in.
That is a thought. I'll have to take it down to Kragen's (my FLAPS) and see if they can do a load test on the battery. However, it hasn't happened since the two times this morning.
You said that both fobs were in the house, was one of them in your pocket at the time? I have had my panic alarm go off a couple of times with the fob in my pocket when something else in my pocket must have pushed the panic button when I leaned against something. The first time I couldn't figure who was honking their horn in front of my house but when I looked out and the Prius lights were flashing and I realized what must have happened. Duh!
Nope. 1 was in my wife's purse and the other was on the kitchen counter. The latter was closer to the garage than the former.
