I disabled the reverse beep and had a forward beep installed. Since I am in D much more often than R, I thought it would be much more useful.
there is NOTHING wrong about disabling it! the toyota sales guy did it for me today, and i told him about the method posted on here and he said it is COMPLETELY safe and will affect nothing else but take away the annoying beep. took mine off before i left the lot.
How come I don't get to vote twice??? That was the first thing I did on both my wife's and my Tourings.
What outside beeper are people using? I bought one over the internet that turned out to be a piece of junk. It beeped when going forward and even beeped when the car was stationary. I couldn't send it back because I was afraid it would beep when in the mail.
I disabled mine within the first week. It seemed kinda dumb to have the annoying beep on the inside and not the outside. I mean, if someone has to be reminded that hey are in R, they probably shouldn't be driving anyway? No. None of my other cars were dumb enough to have a beep to remind the driver that they were backing up. If they had, I would have disabled it too.
Turned it off last night. Now every time I back out of the driveway I get this silly smile on my face, tilt my head back and say, "Ahhhhhhhhhhhh". I suspect my eyes may even close, but just for a moment. Bob
My first mod was to disable the awful noise! I would have preferred to just turn the volume down on it, but no such hack exists. Caution, though: if you back up a bit at a stop light and forget to put it back to drive you will be in for a sudden embarrassing surprise when the light changes!:sorry: I would like a bird like chirping outside during back-up that I could barely hear inside. You should put an option.. Want to very badly, but just been too busy or too lazy to do it... This is me, I hate the beep, so annoying, but I just have not had the time to actually try it.. Soon, I will get this done, Maybe this weekend
What a crazy list of reasons we all have, pro & con, about the beep. My reason for keeping the thing -- Rear visiblity, of course, leaves something to be desired. During the winter when I bought the car, I told myself that once I stop wearing bulky jackets, it'll be easier to swivel around. Sadly, not so. So, I try to minimize my reversing time, and minimize my trying to approximate how many mms. left between me & the object behind. I just leave a wider berth than when I've driven other cars. And so, the annoying beep lets me know to get out of R, as soon as I can. Go figure.
thats not the ONLY beeping sound I have disabled being stuck in line at a fast food joint. yikes. relentless beeping if im too close to another vehicle. dialed down to the min it offered... beeps for 3 seconds still too much IMO
