Most people get 5% on the back-half of the car and 50% on the front windows. Those who are feeling a bit risky will get 35% on the front. Me? I took the 35% off after two tickets and now have 73% which is technically legal as long as you have no factory tint already installed. It barely looks tinted but I get the UV reduction and some of the glare is gone so I'm happy.

With tint the lower the % the darker the tint.

This is what 35% (may have been 20%) on the front and 5% on the rear looks like.

I hate to ask, but what can one expect to pay? I have no idea, if you told me $100, $500, $1,000 I'd believe you.

 

Depends on the shop rates in your area. In my area the rinky-dink cuthroat shops may charge $150 for all 7 windows. The more prominant quality shops would charge $210-$235 for 7 windows with a quality tint with a warranty.

 

I just got mine tinted as well..SunTek carbon series...20% all round. 35% windshield. $325.00 including the windshield..life time warranty...Chicago

I just received my quote for not only the window tinting, but also the 3M clear coat to protect the car finish. (Black touring prius... )

Since the same company can install both products, I thought I'd see about a combo bid: I went with lifetime warranty on 100% ceramic UVA/UVB 35% (legal limit), clear on windshield w/100% UV coverage there too, a dark strip on windshield at top, and a clear coat on all the usual surfaces and 16" (not the skimpy 12") on the hood.

I was quoted $1395. I countered with 1K and they said yes. (Offered to pay cash.) This is a savings way over what the dealer offered, and much higher quality. It is also about $400 cheaper than other shops around town. We live near Portland Oregon.

The company does high quality work and came recommended by several priuschat folks. We'll post after the job is done.

 

How is visibility out the back with 5% all around? I just picked mine up and am still getting used to the rear split window. I want to tint it, but I don't want it to be completely unsafe at night.

 

Wow!!! $1300 + for Clear Shield and tint...I'm in the wrong part of the country!!! Our Basic Clearshield kit starts at $375 and the Deluxe is $575 with window tint being in the $275 range any percentage with the windshield included!!! Nice to know though...Thank You and if you are one step up from limo (5%) film you are at 10% which typically is not that bad looking out at all!!! Trust me...now that you've got your first car done it will be an ongoing thing!!! Oh Yeh...no such thing as 100% UV blockout with window film unless you are using blackout...typical is 92-97 based on film specifics!!! Make sure to also get a 2 mil film installed as window tint also quiets the interior a tad bit as well!!! Acts kind of like a blanket...noticeable!!! Thank You
