Cheap and easy way to add Aux input on '05 Prius?

I installed a wired FM modulator for my aux-in needs. It was about $50. You get what you pay for. I'm not really happy with it. It serves its purpose, but the sound quality is a little lacking. Other people have installed the aux-box with good results.

 

Mine is an 05 base- I installed the Dice silverline- cost $150 or so- it plugs in to the back of the radio- just remove the GB & right center vent and unbolt harness- the aux input or sat input is the one closest to the GB, the dice cable into the radio is basically a jumper to allow the toy sc1 plug in as well, I ran my IPOD dock cable in my GB to keep everything hidden- ran the wire below the GB and wrapped the dice in foam and placed it to the right of the GB by the vent. In the bottom of the lower GB there are 2 oval holes almost big enough to fit the cable- just slight dremel and it fits. Charges the Ipod while in use. Also the install takes 15 minutes.The interface takes some getting used to but works from playlists to albums to artist or all songs,
It works I think about as well as can be expected- What it really needs to keep everyone happy is the exact same interface as the Ipod- but that wont work to display it on the screen.
Also the dice does have an aux input if you desire.

I have the Toy sc1 coming this week- so I will see how it works with the dice.

I would try to avoid the FM modulators, if possible, since FM is the best quality you're gonna get, and it ain't exactly great unless all you listen to is books or lectures. Wireless FM would be at the bottom-end of sound quality. If you have a tape deck, a line to tape adapter would be a cheap, easy solution, but again, not the best sound, but still better than FM. Aux-box is a good choice.

 

just buy a 100 dollar radio from eclipse or sony and it will have way more capabilities than the one you hav enow you'll be way more happy with usb and auxilary choices

CANT CONTROL VOLUME OR tune radio station but my radio has a control remote so i really dont miss it. Also, the OEM radio did not display anything, is like wasted space (the black shiny cover), i am thinking about taking the whole OEM radio out of the car, it is a really waste of space. The volume controls were really a pain for me, instead of making driving easier, it made more difficult. I was always looking at the steering wheel to change volume up 1, 2 , 3, 4 , 5. Really silly volume control with the buttons, but the new radio has a knob which is much easier and faster to handle.

 

rest of the steering wheel controls work just fine, only thing is that after clock on the climate button, the screen does not go back automatically to the mpg screen and when i cloick on anything on the mfd i dont hear the old electronic sound *click* (that is because the sound is not conected to your oem radio anymore) but i can live with that.

 

How did you remove the glove box?
