Today I borrowed an F-350 4x4 TurboDiesel pickup to haul some stuff to be e-cycled. What a noisy stinky beast! I was driving it conservatively, and people were doing the "tailgate-zoom around-cut you off" technique even more than when I drive my Prius. So I think if us Prius people notice a difference in our treatment on the road, it's just that we notice it more, not that it occurs more. But I don't have that trouble in my Prius... I drive like everybody else around me and still am getting 59 mpg on this tank.
Same thing happened last time I took my Land Rover out to run an errand. At this point I only drive it once every few months to try and keep it from falling apart before I get around to fixing a few things and selling it. I used to love driving it. Now I actually feel unsafe driving it. Its big, slow, and feels like you're trying to keep the titanic on course between those ity bity lane lines. And the Discovery isn't even a very large SUV. Definitely made me appreciate the Prius even more. Oh, and BTW I got 13mpg on premium while running my errand Rob
I was following a smoky stinkin Jetta TDI today. Prople that are touting the diesel as a better answer to mpgs than hybrids, should be forced to drive behind one for a while.
Come on, you gotta love that huge Ford! Nothing beats that truck when it comes to other trucks! Besides I could get a Prius in the back and use it as a spare!
I get to drive a brand new ford f350 dual with a v10 for work. sorry to say they old f 350 that took 1 quart of oil every 300 miles or tank of gas got better mileage. It was a 2001. But to be fair it is only a 1.4 mpg difference... 10 and 8.6 mpg. Makes me feel better about the prius at 51 mpg
any car that isn't maintained properly will stink and pollute. that said, ever find yourself behind a veg-oil burner?
I love to drive my big truck I just hate to fill it up with gas. People tailgate no matter what you drive. I love my prius for the gas, but I love my truck for the view. I can see over almost everything and it is fun to drive. Now I just use it to do chores and to take our awesome boat to the lake for some wakeboarding sessions. The truck has it's place just like the Prius. Rusty
I drive my Chevy 3500 dually silverado & tow a 28 ft horse trailer at least once or twice every week (about 32 mile round trip). I used to drive a PU exclusively! Man-o-man, do I ever love pass the gas station in my Prius. 48 mpg vs 15 mpg.
I won't drive anything diesel unless I need something bigger to haul large items. To pay 'Ultra' premium fuel price is just way to expensive for me.
Re: veg-oil burners Galaxee--- With your reference to french fries, does that mean that if we're driving our Prius' behind veg-oil burners that we'll all gain weight and significantly affect the mpg class averages due to our weight increases... Perhaps a solution.....add 2 lbs. of tire pressure (to 46/44) if one drives behind veggies??? Wes ( :>) (??—Actually, we'd increase our visits to Evan's Emergency Room with MI's ((from the fat in the oil)) and he could garner enough extra $ to buy a brand 2010 new plug-in !!!!)
You folks made me realize the reason for the tailgate-zoom around-cutoff maneuvers people were inflicting on me. They didn't want to breath diesel fumes! Maybe the french fry smell makes for a safer drive?
Not only from the diesel fumes... tons of pollen flying around here too! Also, you know how much pollen an old computer sucks in and retains?
