I am planning to add a portable Sirius Radio, but I can not find the auxiliary in, i was wondering if there is one? Thanks...2004 Prius, base with factory radio...
there's a plug inside the armwrest, at the front next to the power plug... Is that what you're looking for?
Sorry, saelee39, the 2004 and 2005 didn't have an auxiliary audio input as later models do. You can get an adapter that plugs into the back of the head unit.
I believe many satellite radio receivers include an FM transmitter feature to communicate with your head unit over an unused FM frequency... not sure if your Sirius unit has that feature. There may a slight degrade in audio quality (or challenge finding an unused frequency in a metropolitain area), but there are no wires to run or panels to remove. If it doesn't have this feature, you can buy a transmitter for ~$20 and plug it to the output of the receiver.
I haven't used it myself, but most people report the FM transmitter option to be terrible. A few years ago the FCC cracked down on the transmit power, so the currently models have a very low power.
I use an FM transmitter and it's fine if you can find an available frequency. If you're driving a longer trip (say between larger radio markets) you may need to change frequencies if the one you're using is occupied wherever you're driving thru. This is not difficult, though, just like changing any radio station. I currently use the iRiver AFT 100 Mobile FM Transmitter since it allows you to enter any FM frequency, while other manufacturers give you 3 or 5 pre-selected frequencies to choose from. Too limiting for me as I live in a crowded radio market (Providence/Boston). I used to use the input-to-cassette-tape-deck option, which provided a better signal, but I didn't like the idea of the tape deck continually spinning.
I already have one of those DICE unit for my IPOD, and never knew there was an auxiliary port. I just hooked up a auxiliary cable to the Sirius unit and was wondering how do I change the source to the AUX mode since there is not a AUX button on the radio?
