Almost ready to spring for a new set of Good year Triple Treds on my 05. After a few slippery trips on greasy roads of late, I need something with more grip to keep the traction control system from kicking in, when starting thru intersections after stoping. I've been reading here that Triple Treds or Hydroedge tires are a big improvement in this issue. I don't want dedicated snow tires as roads are well plowed here, and I've used all seasons on my cars exculively before. If it gets really nasty I use my FWD truck. So I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has used triple treads, and if they helped in keeping the traction control from activating so soon, on acceleration. Thanks in advance

The reports so far have confirmed that both are an excellent choice for high-traction tires on a HSD Prius.

I have HydroEdges and believe they have one minor advantage over the TripleTreds. These 2 deep linear trenches on the HydroEdges...

...seem to provide a better grip for corning. But I don't have a way of actually confirming that, other than studying the difference to this TripleTred photo...

With either one, you'll be pleased by the improvement over the standard tire.

Checking local dealers they tell me that Goodyear Assurance Triple Tread does not come in the Prius tire size. Only the Assurance Comfort tire does and to use the Triple Tread I'd need a larger size.
The Michelin HydroEdge was $525/set of four including tax.
The Goodyear Comfort was $410 which leads me to believe they're not comparable.
Those who installed the Triple Tread, What size tire did you use?

Those of us who are running on the Goodyear Assurance TripleTred are using 195/60/15 on the stock rims. They will fit and are virtually the same overall diameter.

I checked with the tire people and they advised against using the Triple Tread oversize 195/60-15 instead of the proper size 185/65-15 (which is not made). Reasons: less traction in snow, stiffer, bumpier ride. Those of you already using the Triple Tread will probably disagree but the Michelin Hydro Edge in the proper size seems to be the way to go.

It's rainy season in my neck of the woods, so I was recently looking at a similar decision.

I just replaced two sets of tires: I put Michelin HydroEdge on the Prius (in the stock 185/65R16 size), replacing the OEM tires; and I replaced my worn-out Honda Odyssey minivan tires with Goodyear Assurance Triple Treds.

Been driving for a couple weeks now on both sets, and I can say they are both great for rainy/slimy roads. I only put in 350 miles on the stock Goodyear Integrity's, but I noticed the improvement within a day of driving on the new Michelins. You can't go wrong with either tire.

I'm not dissing the Hydroedges but the tire people might also note any price differential

    8) The Goodyear Assurance Comfort Tread is a very good tire I believe. If you noticed on tirerack.com this tire was rated number three. They come in the proper size 185/65/15, have a high score for snow, wet pavement and/or dry roads. Based upon that information I put a set on my 04 Prius less than a month ago and I am just waiting for some snow.

I don't see why the OEM Integritys wouldn't be fine is So. Cal off the mountains.
I had no problems with them until I had to start uphill on greasy snow. We had plenty of fall rain and I never felt I would lose traction.

You might want a higher end tire when the OEMs wear out, but I don't think you need to take a $$ hit by replacing them early.
