I am planning to replace all the speakers in the car (I have a BC package). To be honest, I was expecting a lot more quality from the speakers in the premium audio package, specially knowing that they are JBL, but the quality leaves a lot to be desired. It goes into what you like, I've heard some people love them.
Anyway, so, before I go ahead and replace them, I would like to know what is the actual JBL reference for the speakers that come with the car so that I can look out for the specs and compare them with other brands. Has anybody replace them already that may have this information at hand?
    Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

i hear it's better to just re amp the speakers.. supposedly replacing them does minimal if nothing. Adding an amp or re powering them really makes a change. Add a sub too.

I would have to say no. I'm only speaking on what information i've been hearing over and over. The speakers are powered differently with the nav system. Some are still powered by the head unit, and some are powered by the amp. It would have to be a real custom job. I think the only people who have a shot on how to do it would be here on priuschat.

If you want to see what will fit, try Crutchfield. It appears that there are a bunch of 6.75" component speaker kits that will fit...(I was looking earlier). The only problem I can see is with the tweeter. It may require some cutting to fit other tweeters and the staging would suffer if you just installed tweets in the doors.

As for the nav working...I can't imagine that the particular speaker will make a difference. All it is doing is putting out the signal it is sent as sound. Crutchfield is a bit pricey compared to other web retailers but their stuff comes with the adapters you'll need to install it along with lifetime support.

The stock amp should be quite capable of handling an efficient set of speakers. Look at the power handling rating of the speakers you're looking to buy. The stock amp supposedly puts out 45 watts (based on what I've read on priuschat).

I have recently installed an 8" sub in a custom enclosure powered by a mono amp. This has made a huge difference in the entire system since the door speakers do not have to handle the bass. I just turned down the base and increased the hi's and mid's. The sound is much more balanced now. I will replace the door speakers eventually but until then, the improvement is incredible. I'll be posting pictures of the enclosure I made if you're interested or you can check out the thread for a custom sub enclosure for 04 and 05 prius.
