This is too cool!</span> Check this out. My Prius doesn\'t have the Smart Entry. But, I do have a couple of remote keyless entry fobs. I locked one fob inside the car. I called my wife on my cell phone because she had the other fob at home. <span style=\'color:red\'> She held the fob up to the phone while I held the cell phone near the Prius. Give it a try!
Re: Better than On Star? This is really cool. It should be an embarrassment to the thousands of folks each year who lock their keys in their car and have to call OnStar to unlock their vehicle. IMHO, the main advantage of OnStar is the automatic call to 911 when the airbags deploy. I think this should be a standard feature in all vehicles. With Smart Entry, this "parlor trick" may not help those of us that are prevented from locking fobs in the car, but if it does work, it is nice to know RF can be transmitted via cellphone. This should then work on all RF devices, even my TV remote.
Shame on you masked man....the least you could have done would have been to post this under 'Fred's' Urban Legend
OK, let's give this a try. This is called "Blonde Star". Have you heard it yet? http://www.extremefunnyhumor.com/mp3/blondestar.mp3
LOL! I got BlondeStar emailed to me the other week. I saw the title of this thread and was going to post it here, but MaskedMan beat me. My sister is blonde, so I forwarded it to her....and get this.... she didn't get it! *dies of laughter* Had to explain it to her! (she wasn't amused)
key fob trick wont work over cellphones since the frequency range transmitted by cellphones is not sufficient. try videophone and see if that does the trick
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(DaveinOlyWA\";p=\"60101)</div> Seems like that would be pretty tough unless you locked the car in the house near the phone, or have a really long phone cord.... Did you click on Evan's Urban Legend link earlier in this thread?
From the bowels of Fred's Pancake House... Actually the best keyless entry system out there, aside from SKS, is Ford's system. Aside from some vehicles, like Focus and Mustang, the higher trim grades with keyless entry often include a number pad on the driver's door. It is hard programmed from the factory with a permanent code, but it also is programmable. The correct number sequence will unlock the drivers door, pressing the 3 button after the code has been entered will unlock the remaining doors and pressing yet another button after successfully entering the code will unlock the trunk, if applicable. The point is, who needs Onstar and the monthly or yearly fee to unlock your car when you can just commit to memory a combination and then use it if you lock your keys in. Ford's system is so much better than Onstar for unlocking a vehicle without a key. Why involve a telephone operator and a call center when you can do it yourself no matter if you are in cell phone range or it is isn't even an emergency. So, somewhat funny story. I'm at Costco with a friend and see my parent's F-150 in the parking lot, or I think it is theirs (small urban area, you meet people in places pretty frequently). I committed the code to memory a number of years back when they purchased it. Anyway, I walked up to it, punched in the code and unlocked the door. Friend was amazed, that I could remember the code and it wasn't even my vehicle.
OK, I'm not blonde...in fact I have what many males refer to as a mature hairstyle. I am in NJ at a hotel...far from home. My wife and I have packed the trunk and I laid the car keys in the trunk. I closed the trunk and am standing there with no keys. My wife sits in the car (it is cold and snowing) while I call AAA. They tell me that they can't unlock the trunk but they can unlock the car so I can get in a hit the trunk release...................I sheepishly go back to the car, hit the trunk release and get my keys. Smartly, my wife stays silent for about 30 minutes then we both burst out laughing.
---------------------------------------------------------- I have to say that I admire you for telling that story...I think
