There was alot of talk in this thread about people who don't read the owner's manual. I read that thing cover-to-cover the same day that I brought the car home, but that's just the type of person I am. My wife is exactly the opposite.

In any case, I'm far more surprised that the salespeople who sold everyone their cars didn't go over many of these things with you guys. My salesman went bumper-to-bumper and covered everything in pretty good detail.

This thread was a good one, as it definitely covered some obscure things that I didn't see in the manual or hear from the salesman. I'm still blown away that the salesman wouldn't have explained the smart key option, or how to jump the car, or even the "super secret" drawer.

Hey, there just sales people! Unlike us ... the kooks that become factoid maniacs, a lot of the sales folks simply sell 'em. If you think they're unfamiliar w/ the Prius, just ask any of em' about the old Rav4EV ... some of the sales people will telly you crazy things, like "We never sold such an animal, etc.

But the cool thing is that when you turn hard towards the pool of water, you can hear it slosh loudly towards the drain. Call me simple, but I always look forward to hearing it.

Here's one I haven't seen mentioned yet. I put my radar detector inside the translucent black center dash auxiliary box (under MFD) with the led facing me. It fits just perfectly so that it doesn't move around and the led looks very cool through the black plastic. It seems to pick up the radar just fine in that location.

The box closes nicely with the power cord feeding through the bottom corner near the glove box.

Anyone find a particularly clever way to mount a Garmin Nuvi without the power cord hanging down the dash?

    OK, here's one for you.

I've installed the grill block, increased mileage by 8%
I've increased the pressure in my tires and increased mileage by 4%
I've changed my driving habits, P&G/ predicting lights/ slowing down/ some drafting and increased my mileage by 20%
    Racing disks 2%
A good wash and wax 1%
    EBH 3%
    Intake air heater 9%
    Fuel line heater 2%
    0W30 Amsoil 3%

    If I keep going I'll exceed 100%...

...Then I'll have to stop every so often to drain gas from my tank to keep it from overflowing!

Oh yeah, the small fusion reactor is next!:pound:

    This just proves two things:

    1) a lot of people don't bother reading the manuals.
    2) Salesmen often don't bother explain everything.

    :)

People who drive gas guzzlers won't look at you at traffic stops. It is like we don't exist so that they can feel better about getting 15mpg!

I am putting my Garmin Nuvi in the front cupholder. Have it attached to the suction cup mount, and just place the mount in the cupholder. It doesn't suction down unfortunately, but I just shoved some kleenex in around it to hold it steady. I really don't want it on the dash with the power cord hanging down!

That.. and a whole bunch of fancy lights on the dash turn on!!

Yes it did go to Neutral... I had to pull over and come to a complete stop. Power off and then backup to get going again. I couldn't do it on the fly..

If you have the electronic key fob in your pocket, and your friend is driving, try getting out of the car while it is running. Your friend will drive away with no problem without a key; the nav screen and control panel will, however, make unpleasant noises.

Now that's one thing you can't do in a Prius lol - restart the car on the fly.

I think that one gets a lot of folks. We thought ours weren't working until we read the manual and figured out the right combination of moves. BTW I think they will also stay off unless the shade is flipped most of the way down/forward.

When I'm in my Jeep, I don't look in the mirror. If I believe that I don't exist, I can feel better about getting 14mpg (If I'm lucky).

One thing I missed in the manual is the speed dependent volume control.
For a while, I thought it was my imagination, until I stumbled upon the settings for it.

Has anyone noticed that when you plug a device into the Aux input port, the head unit automatically decrease your volume setting to about 25?
