Just bought this 2005 And I cant figure out how to make the back up camera turn on when I select reverse.. HELP Ron
I think the back up camera and hires screen came out in the 2006 model. Are you sure you have a camera?
In the 2008 it comes on automatically when put into reverse. Is it a modification put on by a previous owner?
Ron, I believe that the Prius did not have the backup camera as an option until 2006. If your car is a 2005, it cannot have an OEM backup camera. (Nor can it be a Touring Edition as you noted in your avatar because the Touring Edition did not come out until 2007). However, if I am wrong and you do have an OEM backup camera in your Prius, it should turn on automatically when you shift to Reverse. I would go back to the dealer that you bought it from.
I agree with Boo. For you to have a backup camera it has to be at least a 2006. If the top part of your tailights are black then you have a 2005 or older. If you can post a list of equipment we may be able to help you figure out what you bought. Do you have fog lights? Which stereo? Do you have an autodimming mirror?
Well thx for your help.. The car does have black on top of taillights.. It has the fancy 6 CD changer and JBL speakers.. It has fog lamps Navigation system .. Now on top of the rear deck is a little black thing with 2 peepholes .. I thought that was the camera.. I know it has it because I saw it work.. I can call the dealership but wanted to get aquainted on the forum.. The car was put into service Feb 4 2006... Ron
On my 2007, the camera is a tiny black 'blister' under the hatch door lip, to the left of the license plate. It sounds like they may have installed a third party one in your car, probably with a manual switch? If they did the salesperson needs to show you where they put the switch!
:rant:Well Guys I think you are right when ya say thaere isnt one.. BECAUSE I did drive a 2008 and THAT is where I saw it.. Oh well maybe I will look into an after market one.. Anyway Will come back with some more HMMMM dumb questions... THX anyway guys Ron
Welcome to PriusChat, Ron! Come by any time. There are a few differences between the 2005 and later model years, but they are pretty minor. The backup camera and the higher resolution screen are the most obvious. Placement of indicators changed a bit too.
