This is a wonderful site. My sincere thanks to the dedicated folks who make it happen. The Prius is a really great car. I have had mine since the beginning of the year. 2008, package 6. I have added a Scangauge, mud guards (purchased through this site), grill blocking, synthetic oil (Mobile 1) and I'm thinking of adding a BT Stiffening plate. Hmmm. I have been around large machinery and ships engine rooms all my adult life but never took much interest in cars. This car is the very first one that has sparked my interest and made me really want to learn about it (and get better at driving it ). I have been averaging about 51 MPG (MFD) and I have completely changed my driving habits. As suggested by so many on this site……I have SLOWED DOWN. Surprisingly, driving is now fun (sort of a game with the MPG’s) and much less stressful. I am completely at ease going 60 to 65 on the interstate, even during the morning/evening commute. Once again, many thanks to the folks (especially the senior members) who make this site a real community.
Glad you made it.. 60 to 65? Not on the Interstate I drive on (Southeast Expressway, I93). I'm lucky to get it up to 30 mph in the morning your neighbor, mitch

Greetings to the Massachusetts delegation and welcome to PriusChat! I know what you mean, CB793, before I got my Prius a car was just a car. As long as it ran, I didn't really care. But I love my Prius!
Re: Greetings From Sharon +1 Everyone should check out the local New England Prius Club thread. I'm up for a meet.
Welcome to Priuschat Mitch! You mean we can actually get some people to show up like last July? Wow! What about a New England delegation to Hybridfest 2008? I'm definitely going this year. Hobbit just gave a talk in North Reading a couple of weeks ago at a local library but nobody else from here showed up. Winter gives me cabin fever. I need spring.
We could always try this: Toyota Prius Owners, Toyota Prius Meetups, events, clubs and groups near Boston, Massachusetts I signed up a few years ago, but we could never get enough people together to meetup... Mitch
Welcome, new Massachusettsians! Yeah, we got a few people together last summer. I'd be up for it again. Subscribe the NE board and maybe we can organize another meet.
Hello All, Yes, let's get together. Maybe in the spring on a Sunday? Anybody have any suggestions about location? I will also check out the "local" MA section of the site. And Mitch - I don't envy your commute. I'm on 495.
Meetings Spring Meeting Sounds Great.. Where Are You Thinking Of Meeting.. I Dont Mind Traveling A Bit. Or Could Do Something Around The Norwood, Dedham Area..or Meet Towards Boston... Whatever Is Best For Everyone.. Is Early April Sound Good On A Sunday??? Lets Pass The Word And See If We Can Get A Good Crowd Going.. Gary
all...and greetings from Plainville, MA! (...ok, it's near N. Attleboro, not too far from Bellingham too!) I'm brand new too, as I just picked up my 2008 Driftwood Pearl (Pkg. 4) on Feb. 19th! I actually gave up a PT Cruiser Turbo Convertible, but I already love my Prius! My driving style has already changed as well. Mileage has been indicating 42-52mpg avg., but I've only filled it up once so far after picking it up from the dealer so not sure yet. Since I'm an engineer, I have to always modify things, so I already got rid of the beeps and added the EV Mode & Power Outlet mods over the weekend. (BTW: Great service from Dave at Coastal E-Tech!) Sounds like we have quite a few members in the MA area! Happy Hypermiling! +Peter+ Peter J.B. Teague, N1ACT Plainville, MA Home page: www.pjbt.net (needs updating!!) In Grafton. My commute is about 13 miles through back roads. Most of it is rolling hills which has proven to be a big challenge on the gas mileage. I do head to the city on the Pike atleast once a week. It's amazing how much better mileage I get going to the city then back out. I used to do this commute every single day in a corolla, not once did I notice it was mostly up hill heading west. steve
Welcome aboard! The first Prius 2 I ever rode in (and the one that made me decide to buy one) was owned by a good friend from Bellingham, MA (of course, at the time he lived - and still lives - in the Bay Area). Also, since I've been on this board (a little over a year), we've had one Real Life get together of MA Prius Owners (MAPO?) - we should wait until the precipitation stops (expected date: late October) and the weather warms up (any day now) before even THINKING of another one...
HAD MY CAR FOR 1 MONTH... I JUST CHANGED MY OIL AFTER 900 MILES.. I PUT A SYNTHETIC OIL IN IT,NOW WILL SEE IF IT MAKE A DIFFERENCE!! WHAT IS THE EV SWITCH, I HAVE SEEN SOME OTHER PEOPLE WRITE ABOUT THEM..I HAVE BEEN AVERAGING 54-60 MPG'S I MUST SAY NOT TO SHABBY!! NOW THAT BETTER WEATHER IS ON THE WAY, WE CAN ALL MAKE A DATE AND MEET SOMEWHERE WITH OUR CARS... THIS MORNING I WASHED AND WAXED MY CAR , THEN TOOK OFF THE TRIM RINGS, AND WHAT A DIFFERENCE IT MAKES IN THE LOOK OF THE CAR.. WISH I DID IT SOONER.. LATER GARY SHARON,MA
Gary, you don't have to shout, we can all hear you. There's a ton of info and user experience written up about the EV mode on this site, so a search will get you more info than we can share in this thread. The long and short of it is: it's mostly just a novelty. People interested in meeting up should head over to the New England forum and chat it up in the thread that was started there recently!
