In my 2006 prius I find that my feet never get warm there always seems to be cold air on them. I can feel some heat down there when I put my hand down there but my feet never warm up. I never had this problem with any other car. Has anyone experienced this?
Have you set the temp high enough? Have you sent the heat to the floor? I have an 07 and the heat is fine. I have to turn it down (Temp) after a while. Sorry to hear you are having this problem.
Couple things... 1) Consider an engine block heater (lots of threads here, do a search and the priuschat shop sells them). This prewarms the engine so you'll have plenty of heat much more quickly. It will also dramatically improve your fuel economy the first 5-10 minutes.:whoo: 2) There is a dealer customizable setting that allows a bit of cold air to flow in at the feet...that's the default setting and it happens no matter what. If you live in an area that is almost always very cold (ie. Minnesota, Alaska, etc) you might ask the dealer to change that setting to 'off'. There's also a list of dealer programable settings somewhere here on PC you can print out and take for reference if they give you a confused stare when you ask. 3) Finally, and this is a little counter intuitive, try turning the temp setting to max cold, AC-off, Auto-off, manually set the fan speed to the lowest setting...drive that way for the first 10 minutes. This also allows the ICE to warm up a bit more quickly and you'll get more heat sooner than you otherwise would have...and get a little bump in fuel economy those first 5-10 minutes.
I found that as well when I rented one, and it was a very cold weekend, I too saw a post about the cold air program option, I dont know why there is one unless you need the air coming in for the battery to breath better? my diesel keeps my feet warm lol, im still shopping for a Prius as there are no new diesel options (green) in Canada right now.
First, Evan, you should keep your hands on the wheel when you drive! As for heat in the foot-well, I haven't noticed that it's cold. We live in a cold and snowy climate, so in heating season (Sep-Jun) if it's cold enough for much heat, we wear serious boots. Because of that, I might not be the best one to answer your question. I leave my A/C on Auto, and bump the temperature set-point up and down as needed. If I'm cold, I bump it up a click or two. It seems to work well. My only intervention is for defrost. Once in a while I have to manually run the defrost (mostly if I'm talking too much). Otherwise the control system does a good job deciding when to defrost. Tom
I put the heat all the way up and it is hot in the upper part but my feet are freezing. I put the heat all the way on the foot area and still cold.
Question - once you turn the AC off, isn't it redundant to also bother with the fan speed, temperature and auto off?
Nope, you still get passive heat/cooling (ala a traditional "vent" setting) so if your fan speed is high, in cold weather, you'll be blasted with cold outside air if you have the temp set to max cold. If you're set to max hot in cold weather it'll still circulate the air around the ICE into the cabin.
I would say your solution is to have the dealer set the foot damper on the right side to "OFF". The information can be found somewhere on PriusChat . It's in a PDF file ! Actually I just did my car yesterday and the draft is now gone!! The process requires the Toyota Scanner. The shipping default is ON so just have the dealer shut it OFF The process takes about 30 seconds but remember the service person has to walk to the car and back so they will probably charge 1/2 hr $$. The chap who did mine yesterday was intrigued that I was telling him something the had no knowledge of so did it free gratis Good luck
Maybe I missed it, but do you have the grille blocked off? Especially in temps below -20 C, I freeze in my Prius unless I completely block the exterior of the upper and lower grille With the grille blocked, I'm toasty even at -40
For those who may be interest in "warmer feet" here is the beginning thread . http://priuschat.com/forums/care-ma...ir-infiltration-but-baby-its-cold-inside.html The PDF is on page two by Tideland Prius and is called "multi5.pdf" try here http://priuschat.com/forums/knowled...5-customisable-prius-settings.html#post481717 "air infiltration -But Baby It's Cold Inside There is a cold draft near the floor at every climate setting including off, in my 08. Most noticeable at highway speeds, but always there. "
