We have 2 each 2006 Prius. One has 9K and the other has 19k.

The 9K prius goes into glide effortlessly and the 19k Pruis has difficulty going into glide.

The driving conditions and drivers are the same.

Is it possible that the difference is in the accelorator variable resistor or something else?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...
    Love the new site....

How about tires? Same type? Same pressure?

    2006 glide differently

Thanks a million for the reply.

There is a difference in the tires. The 19k 2006 Pruis has 205 comfort threads. and the 9k has the 185's.

I always check the air pressure with a very high quality guage.

The 19k always had a problem engaging into glide (free wheeling) even before we went to the larger tires. We bought both cars used.

We thought the 19k Prius was behaving properly until we got the 9k.

The cars are slightly different. The 9k is a tighter car with stronger steering. The 19k has a few minor rattles and seems to be a looser car.
Age and previous driving conditions probably account for the difference... as slight as they may seem.

I guess it is unusal for someone to own the same year car... so, most of us don't have the opportunity to make a side by side comparison.

Why do you think the tires would cause one Prius to engage glide effortlessly and the other to be tempermental? The two cars do roll the same. The difference is getting the 19k to engage in free wheeling seems to be the major difference.

    Thanks again for the reply.

No one knows... Why one of our 2006 Prius goes into glide with difficulty. We took our anti-glide Pri to the dealer and he said it was going into glide normally. Not so when we compare it to our other 2006... which seems to behave normally and goes into glide effortlessly.

It may not be a big deal anyway... but, it may explain why some prius owners get better mileage than others.

Has anyone looked into this phenomena? Are all Prius created equally?
    thanks for the help.

Is one parked in the garage?

Can you tell if your both in stage 4? (coolant temp above 70c + engine on -> off at a complete stop state)

They are both parked in the same garage. Both cars appear to be warmed up... however, now that you mention it... the glide problem car doesn't seem to warm up as quickly and engine shutdown seems to be a little rougher. We are splitting hairs here... On the surfice both cars appear normal as individuals.

It is like having identical twins in the family... they look alike etc... but, you know they are different. The same appears with these cars. One is smoother, tighter, and a lady. The other seems to be a tough guy that goes clunk... give me the gas and jump on my brakes... kind of car.

You only can discover these things by living and driving with them for awhile. We love the cars... and of course have to recognize their differences from our point of view.

We hope that all of America will be able to have one or two.

It really would be interesting if a family owned three of the same year.

I believe cars have souls. Unfortunately this is your car's soul speaking to you. Break in periods being VERY important, It was probably driven hard and not treated very well. All you can do is be nice to it and hopefully it'll come around a bit. It'll never drive like the 9k but if you're nice it should get better. You probably get different gas mileages at different speeds as well.

My 74 Caprice Classic got it's best mileage over 75, anything under 60 it'd drink like a lush.
