Shorting Noise in my '05 - HELP!

    Hi all,

    I am at wit's end as it comes to my 2005. Consistently, whenever I drive, I hear an intermittent noise that sounds like it is coming from under the driver's side dashboard. It sounds like an electronic "short" (sort of like two keys clinking together). I know it is not coming from the speakers... my wife drove the car around while I laid on the floor, and it is definitely not from speakers. This is really driving me nuts.

    FYI, a few notes:

    -it makes the sound with or without the stereo or HVAC system on
    -it only makes the sound when the car is moving

    I was worried that maybe it was related to upgraded speakers that I installed, which is why I didn't take it to the dealer. However, the stereo/speakers are not affected at all, and, again, the sound is definitely coming from under the dash.

    HELP! I have the 6yr/100k warranty from Troy, but I'm hesitant to take it in and be "that guy" that claims he hears a random noise.

    Blaine at the risk of being "that guy" take it in anyway. That's what the warranty is for. Have the Aftermarket Installer go for a ride with you and he'll be able to pinpoint the noise.

    BTW, can you hear the noise from the outside of the vehicle when the hood is propped open? The sound may actually be coming from your engine compartment and not in your dash.

    As I said above, it only makes the sound when I'm moving. Having the hood open might be challenging :).

    I know it is not related to the speakers (although I thought that at first). I've disconnected them and the "phantom noise" still exists.

    You bought that extended warranty, use it! My brother-n-law had a strange noise from the dash in his 06. It was a bracket that had come loose and was fixed under warranty.
